Andy Warhol Andy Warhol was born on August 6th 1987. He was originally given the name Andrew Warhola but as he grew older he developed the nickname Andy and he dropped the extra a in Warhol when he started his art career. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Holmes School where he took free art classes after school. He later graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology where he got a bachelor's degree in fine art. He planned on becoming an art teacher until one of his friends persuaded him to go to New York with him. Warhol picked up a job designing advertisements for magazine companies like Glamour and Vogue. In two of his most famous pieces, Campbell's soup cans and Green Coca Cola Bottles he did something totally new to the art world, he took a product that already existed and repeated the same image over and over until he thought it was good enough, he used a simple concept with a bigger message behind it. He had a very unique style that mainly focused around commercial goods and celebrities he also made a lot of art based on comic strips. Warhol once said that dying was the most embarrassing thing anyone could do. Warhol died at the age of 58 on February 22nd 1987 at the New York City hospital while undergoing a gallbladder operation. Warhol was one of the most important artists of the 20th Century, not only did he make meaningful paintings about the world and economy around him but he brought us all other aspects of the art world such as film, advertisement, photography, music, television, literature, consumers products and money. Warhol’s most famous pop art had deeper meanings than the faces on top. They symbolized the new things in the world that he himself and other people were discovering.
