Essay Comparing Spartacus And Gilgamesh

Two ancient renowned protagonists: Spartacus and Gilgamesh. They both lived in the before christ era, Gilgamesh lived in the 2700 B.C (Sarah). However, Spartacus lived from 109-71 B.C (Czech). Both of which have different stories from one another. One being a gladiator turned slave turned rebellion leader. The other being a demigod and king of Uruk. They both have traits that would make them well admired by modern society. However, Spartacus would more than likely be more adored. This is because he is a gladiator, a rebellion leader and he is very convincing and promising. Spartacus was a Thracian gladiator in ancient Rome. While serving in the Roman army, Spartacus decided to desert the army and led bandit raids. He was eventually captured
That protagonist would be Spartacus; there are many reasons as to why this is. First of all, he is a gladiator, he fights for his rights. This is seen in many different ways in the modern era. For instance, just recently, the gay community fought for right to have gay marriage be allowed in all states (CNN, par. 5). Now that isn’t really fighting to the death for something they want, but in modern times you can’t fight to death like you could back then. Second of all, he is a rebellion leader. This would be admired because he can be related to Martin Luther King Jr. who led the black community to their equal rights. He led the black rebellion against the whites and officially earned their rights and freedom. Plus, both MLK and Spartacus were assassinated as a result of their duties (History.com Staff, par. 1). Lastly, he was convincing and promising. He convinced more than 90,000 slaves to fight the power. He promised them their freedom, even though they didn’t succeed, he still was able to do so. This is like politics at the moment, each candidate is to convince their party to elect them by promising things that they will do while in office. This is why Spartacus would resonate better in modern
