August 26th, 2014 Comparison of Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards
Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards are two interesting writers. Anne Bradstreet wrote more about her life and what she loved in it. Also, she wrote about God and how all of her troubles will be solved once she goes to heaven. Next, Jonathan Edwards did not write about his life. Edwards wrote a lot about God and how he will aim back at any person that goes against his word.
Anne Bradstreet wrote more about her life and the issues than Jonathan, that did not write about his life, but more about God and who disobeys him will pay. Anne addressed how much she loves her husband, to when her house burnt down. Anne wrote,”I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold”(Line 5). In this quote she is talking about her husband and how much she needs and loves him in her life. However, Jonathan wrote about God and how anyone that does anything wrong to or toward him will regret it. Jonathan wrote,”There is no other reason to be given why you have not gone to hell, since you have sat here in the house of God, provoking his pure eyes by your sinful wicked manner of attending his solemn worship.”(Lines 61-63). In this quote he is talking about God and how anyone to aggravate God will be punished.
In Anne Bradstreet’s eyes, God was nice and forgiving and to Jonathan Edwards God was vengeful. Anne wrote like she didn’t have to worry about anything rough in her life because she knows God will reward her with anything and everything she needs in the end. Anne wrote,”The world no longer let me love, my hope and treasures lies above”(Lines 53 & 54). This quote proves that she believes when she dies God will do great for her and everything will be alright. On the other hand, Jonathan writes like God is very vindictive and needs to punish every person who does wrong in the eyes of God. Jonathan wrote,”Unconverted men walk over the pit of hell on a rotten covering” (Line 19). In this quote, Jonathan is saying any person that is not converted to the religion of God will go to hell, which proves how, in Jonathan's eyes, God was vengeful.
To conclude, Bradstreet and Edwards were similar and different in some ways. Bradstreet wrote more about her life, than God, but believed heavily in God and his ways. Next, Edwards didn't write about life, but more about God and how anyone to go against God will regret it in the end. They were both similar because they both believed in God and his ways.

I believe that Anne Bradstreet (1612 – 1672), made major contributions to early American Literature through her poetry. Her poems stressed the daily struggles and stress of Puritan life. Bradstreet had struggled with the validity of the Scriptures, but through her life experiences she developed a strong belief in God. Bradstreet paved the way for future female writers.
