I have seen students dress up in a lot of awesome clothes!! For example, on “Dynamic Duo” day, people have dressed up as salt and pepper, ketchup and mustard, peanut butter and jelly, etc. , and, honestly, it was really awesome because it represented how much the students love to participate on these kinds of occasions. The leadership committee also encourages the students to participate in

Majority of the students have fun during Spirit Week. The students communicate with their friends and figure out “What am I going to wear for today?!” It’s honestly so exciting how almost every student gets excited to dress up in whatever outfit they want, but following dress code, and show off their AMAZING outfits that they have chose for the day. Lastly, everybody’s outfits express the kind of person they are, which is totally fine, but astounding due to the amount of creativity they’re showing just by dressing up for the occasion.
To sum things up, Spirit Week is a week in which students participate in school pride, display their creativity, and have fun!! As Spirit Week comes to an end, everything gradually goes back to normal. We all go back to dressing up our regular outfits for an ordinary day of school. But, the energy never dies down. We will always have pride in our school and show off how we all are one ʻŌhana at Konawaena. As they always say, “Another day, another

Many festivals, such as Shrove Tuesday and Carnival represented times of extreme excess that served as an outlet for behaviors that were usually considered unacceptable by the Church and the dictates of polite society. The festivals that Europeans took part in allowed them to unwind and take a break from work and stress. A 17th century French traveler, R. Lassels, describes that, “all this festival activity [has allowed Italians to] give a little vent to their spirits.” (Doc. 5) He is commenting on the happiness and joy that the Italian Carnival brought to the Italians as it was a break from the serious aspects of the rest of the year. As a French traveler, Lassels was probably writing more objectively being that he wasn’t attached to the customs he was writing about. He explains how these customs were able to keep people happy. Carnival, beginning in January, ended with the celebration of Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday. It was the 40-day period of fasting and penance before Easter. It was considered the most elaborate festival. An early 17th century English writer, John Taylor…

To me it was just really good food that I wished stayed around a little longer. Growing up to realize it wasn’t just a family thing we did when we were really hungry, it was my culture that I shared with the people I love and grew up around. I have lived in the same small town of Bonner Springs, Kansas my entire life. My parents and I have always been close and I guess one could say we are a “normal” American family. My heritage derives from German, Native American, and a Bohemian background. I honestly do not know much about my ancestry except for the few things my parents and grandparents have shared with me. How I see it, I am a mix of hundreds of amazing individuals from different races, cultures and backgrounds. Residing on a farm taught me a lot about hard work, medicine, and caring for others. I always knew I wanted to be a nurse even as a small child. At a young age my grandmother entered a nursing home, so I essentially grew up watching others care for her and from then…

Day of the Dead is celebrated in the beginning of November by mainly Latin American countries. In Mexico, it is a major holiday and taken very seriously. It is a celebration in which the dead are joined with the living. Those from the afterlife come in contact with life on earth and partake in both scared and joyous festivities. The dead come as spirits from their afterlife to rejoin their families and visit their homes. It is a time when the deceased are able to enjoy once again the pleasures of life. This holiday is unlike any other. This holiday gives believers the ability to somewhat under stand the afterlife or at least connect with it. It functions as a "ritualistic elaborate celebration of life, rather than a sober mourning of its passing." By rejoicing in bright colors, extravagant outfits and giving gifts of food and spices Mexicans as well as other cultures are able to cope with mortality.…
