Essay About Being Thankful
“Happiness isn’t about getting what you want all the time. It’s about loving what you have and being grateful for it.” Being thankful means expressing gratitude. Love what you get, don’t be greedy, and don’t complain. An important law of life that I have learned to live by is to be thankful for what you have.

Two years ago I was lucky to get many gift cards, money, and a new wallet from friends and family for Christmas. My siblings didn’t get as much so they were a little jealous and I made the mistake of bragging to them. A few days after Christmas, I went to a friend’s house for the day and my mom and my two little sisters, three and eight at the time, went grocery shopping. My dad and two brothers, six and thirteen at the time, went to a sledding activity at our church.

Around two hours of me being there my mom called. When

My uncle was over at our house helping my parents clean up. Most of the mess was cleaned up so I went up to my room. Two of my cousins who were both younger than me were in my room. We all tried to lighten the mood and I was joking about how the burglars tried to get into my lock box in my room but all it had in it was some chapstick. My cousins also cheered me up by giving me some of their allowance money because my wallet was stolen. It made me happy and thankful that I have such a wonderful family.

My uncle and cousins left when my siblings got home from my grandparents’ house. We got ready for bed and I picked out my clothes for church the next day. My dress was hanging up and I pulled it down and tossed it on my empty, clean dresser. The next morning when I woke up, I went to put on my dress and when I picked it up my wallet fell out! I was mostly surprised and confused because I knew it wasn’t in those clothes the night before. All of my money and gift cards were in my wallet and so I returned my cousins’ money. I was ecstatic because I had my Christmas presents

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

Those who are happiest, never have everything; rather, they are thankful for everything they do have. In an ideal world, everything would be perfect for each of us. There would be no restrictions, no hardships, and no sadness. Unfortunately, such a world is unattainable, which is why we have to make do with the good we do have; something we all possess, no matter how bad things may seem. Dwelling on all the things you do not have will never leave you satisfied, and will never let you be truly happy. Happiness is acceptance, perspective, and embracing all you have.…

Something every single person in the world wants is continual happiness. Everyone searches for this positive feeling in different ways such as: adrenaline, drugs, addictions, and splurging. Although, a not so common way people may find happiness is by being thankful. “If you analyze people’s actions, you will come to the conclusion that they all seek happiness. Every act, in fact, is a search for happiness, even if on the surface it doesn't look so” (Sasson). The human race searches for something that will complete us, or make us feel better about the things we do, and all signs have pointed us to happiness. In this essay, I will be comparing two articles, one written by David Murray and the other by Thomas Corley, hoping to answer the question “Does being thankful correlate with improved levels of happiness more than money does?” Both of these authors have written wonderfully about how being thankful makes you happier and how financially wealthy people are happier. It's a very intriguing question because it matters to us all, and once this question is answered it is possible that humans may be able to find the happiness that we so longingly search for.…

Thanksgiving is considered by many as being the worse meal of the year. Why? Because of the extreme overload of high-starch carbs that trigger blood sugar spikes for so many people. Just think of it. Pumpkin pie with a scoop or two of ice cream, corn bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sugar-laden cranberry sauce and green bean casserole, that's why.…

I think that my attitude about gratitude is very important. Over the past couple weeks, I have been assingned to write about what I am grateful for or something good that has happened to me that day. I think that this has really truly strengthed my health in a lot of ways. I used to think that I wasn’t that wealthy. I used to think that everyone has more than me. I have had a talk about this with my parents and they have said that you should be so grateful for what you have. I have been thinking about this lately and its really got to me. I have read an article that there was a group of kids. Someone asked all of them to write down what they were thankful for each day. Some of the kids did it and some didn’t. it turns out that the ones who did it were the most happy. They were so happy and cheerful rather than the other kids who did not appreciate all that they had. They think that they should just be automatically given that stuff. If you think like that you will never be happy. I have learned from experience. When you are grateful for everything you are happy about everything. If you are happy about everything, then it can effect you entire health. Mentally and Socially. Just like we have gotten to write in a gratitude journal, that is practicing for many things. In my article, it says “people that have gratitude tend to be more creative, bounce back more quickly from adversity, have a stronger immune system, and have stronger social relationships than those who don’t practice gratitude. I think this totally true and I agree with it. In the end, being grateful makes you feel so amazing and happy.…

I had just gotten home from school and I was carrying a small bag of presents my two closest friends gifted me. That day started off better than any of my other birthday’s by said friends decorating my locker as a surprise. I remember stepping into the living room and instantly facing a 180 mood swing. I was having that feeling you get when you’re excited to eat leftovers of your favorite food, but then quickly remember the food was never there. Meanwhile, my Mom was feeling a typical case of motherly nosiness and asked what was inside the bag.…

This is not your typical Thanksgiving guide. We are not the Food Network so we will not talk about how to cook a Thanksgiving feast. This is more about the behind the scenes footage of Thanksgiving. Instead of what to cook, I want to tap into those holiday nuances like your Mother and Aunt, arguing over who’s making the dressing this year, or the Uncle that has to bring a different woman to dinner every year because he is still trying to get under Aunt Margaret’s skin. You'll get rules on hosting a party, should you bring something if invited, how involved do you want your husband to be, and so on. Here is the rundown of the Do’s and Don’ts of Thanksgiving.…

My grandfather passed away and it sent my family and i into a turmoil. It was so sudden and fast we knew we had to prepare for our future without him. That day was the first day ever that my whole family and I sat in silence. No conversations, No cracking jokes or laughter, just silence. It was a day of sadness, but as the strong family we are, we lifted each other up and we accepted it and we made a promise to each other that we would never leave each other's sides. That day made me realize how much our family is united and this day put our strength to the test and we didn't let it break us. It actually brought us even…

We were so happy, I started explaining to her where we were, how the place looked like and that there was a big garbage can, as I explain tears dripped from my eyes. We hugged each other, cried, and stayed put right next to the garbage can. We finally saw my mother’s silver BMW car. We slowly walked towards the car, making sure that it was my mother or one of our parents are in there. I then saw my mother did something with her hand, I know what that meant to hurry up, I told my little cousins to hurry up and get in the car, we ran as fast as we could towards the car and got in. Since then my little cousins and I learned a very big and important lesson that we will never forget, it to your pacings with your family, close and to tell them that you need a break if you are losing your…

It was Christmas Eve my whole family was over for our annual Christmas party. We had a huge dinner. Everyone was full and we were sitting around the Christmas tree opening gifts. We went from youngest to oldest when opening our presents. It made it more fun so that everyone knew what everyone else got. After doing gifts we had dessert and then we started cleaning up. My family had left and I was so excited for Santa Clause to come. I always knew Santa didn’t come until I was sleeping. I went upstairs, took a bath, brushed my teeth, and brushed my hair as fast as I could and then pulled my blankets down and hopped into bed. I had only been asleep about thirty minutes when I heard noise downstairs. I was so excited thinking it was Santa Clause that I jumped out of bed and ran downstairs. When I got down there I saw my parents wrapping presents and putting them under the tree. I sat on the steps and watched for awhile and then decided that I needed to find out what was going on, and why my parents were doing what I thought Santa Clause was supposed to do. I needed to get to the bottom of this. I walked the rest of the way down the steps and walked over to my parents who were panicking and trying to hide all of my gifts so that I wouldn’t see them. I asked them what was going on and they started to explain. They began to tell me that Santa Clause was in a hurry and he didn’t have time to wrap presents and put them under the tree this year, that he was running behind and that he needed my parents to help him. That was a good enough…

    Best Christmas Ever

Every year I have a great Christmas spending valuable time with family and friends. This past Christmas was the best I’ve ever had. I received the best unexpected gift ever! It all started when everyone in my family came to my house early Christmas morning for breakfast. After breakfast we started passing out gifts. First, we would usually go in a huge circle and everyone would open one gift at a time. This time was different and very odd to me. My family would let everyone open a gift and would skip me. At first, I wondered why I didn’t get my turn yet, but then, I thought to myself that something was up. After a while, my family let me open some of my gifts so that I wouldn’t suspect anything. Next, my whole family huddled up whispering to each other. I then knew that something wasn’t right which made me get a little angry. After my family’s little huddle, they handed me a card. As I read the card, I come across the words,” You will be going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico!” I stood up screaming to the top of my lungs with enjoyment. I cried happy tears because I never expected to go on a cruise especially without my parents. All of my family members rushed to me and gave me a big hug. My grandmother and I cried together in joy and sadness because she was happy for me but at the same time, she didn’t want to see her oldest grandchild leave the country without her being there with me. Over all, my family gave me some advice on what to do and what not to do while I’m on the cruise. I had a great time on the cruise and got to learn about a different culture from mines. It was a unforgettable experience and I would never forget the best Christmas…
