Songs on Overcoming Obstacles
There will always be a plethora6 of challenges in an individual’s life and these challenges are what we have to overcome in order to make that individual stronger. The challenges that we overcome will only lead to a better morality and less challenges that an individual will always face. The theme that is expressed throughout the entire song is overcoming the hardships of man and uses them to prep the rest of your life. In the pop song “Stronger” composed by Kanye West, he elaborates on the formidable7 challenges that an everyday man faces and how to overcome these hardships. He explains that whatever is thrown into your life is for a reason and will only help you later on in a person’s life. The song composed by Kanye West entitled “Stronger,” accentuates8 that no matter how life treats you, there will always be a light at the end of a tunnel and will guide you to a better and a stronger life. As proven in “Stronger,” no matter what hardships are faced, they are for a reason and will help you. Kanye West states “Now that that don’t kill me can only me stronger,” is to prove that only things that will kill a person can’t be overcome and that doesn’t hurt will only help prevent it happening again in the future. This clearly shows that as we grow older and wiser, we realize more of what the world throws at us and we make ourselves able to attack the situation when we are poised with it again. These lyrics are figurative language because he clearly does not mean exactly that want kill you can make a person stronger. He really means that things are sometimes tougher than they may appear but will only lead to something good. Also, by knowing how to overcome these challenges, a person would be able to help others with problems and challenges that may be similar to the one that they went through. Kanye West clearly demonstrates that all challenges can be taken by the horns and beaten. There are many poignant9 feelings that permeated10 through the lyrics to express

Adversity can bring out the positive and negative sides in a person. In “The Proof of Worth,” Edgar Albert Guest demonstrates how challenges in life can help someone understand what he or she is capable of during a hardship. Similarly, “The Importance of Adversity in Growth and Development” written by Patrick Kohan exemplifies how children will never learn how to conquer an obstacle if they are always given assistance. Furthermore, Laura Hillenbrand’s novel, Unbroken, indicates that experiencing problems can affect the way a person’s body reacts and thinks about a difficult moment. Ultimately, the authors highlight that obstacles can be a complex or helpful task, as well as benefit people in the future when they need to know their true talents.…

Is it really true that what does not kill you makes you stronger? I do believe so. Maybe when people face a problem it does not makes too much sense in the near future, however it will do. “Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.…

“Every day every hour. Turn the pain into power.” Danny O’Donoghue, a vocalist member of the band The Script, sings in “Superheroes” about the strength that comes with overcoming the struggles presented in life; similarly this message can be seen in Ishmael Beah’s recount of the challenges he faced as a victim of war, A Long Way Gone. To me, the song is a reminder of how difficulties can build someone into a stronger person. Throughout the song, all the lyrics hint that without suffer and perseverance, success cannot be achieved. Similarly, in Beah’s story, he becomes a teenager with more fortitude only after breaking down and experiencing immense grief and pain both physically and mentally. From listening to and analyzing “Superheroes” and reading A Long Way Gone, I learn that only after breaking down and…

“There are people out there who have a much harder life than I do, and all I can say to them is that they are much stronger than I. To those of you with abusive parents, or school bullies, to the people out there with money problems or fear of the future, to the women with cheating husbands and the men with whoring wives, to the children who think that their lives aren’t worth living, I say to you; keep moving forward. For my sake, and the sake of those who fell to their own hands before me, for the sake of the people who thought life was too scary… keep living!…

The bridge is the foundation of the entire song. It has a way of notifying the listener of the adventure they are about to embark on and that this song is far from the conventional hip-hop and rap music that is often blasted on the local radio airwaves. The listener is teleported back to Kendrick’s childhood to the playground, particularly in the sandbox. The sandbox is a representation of creative freedom; an individual can create anything he or she desires. Although it can provide freedom, the sandbox is also the dirtiest place on the playground; it can come with all types of germs and other undesirable objects. Kendrick Lamar mentions his father “…holding the handgun, [while] she was giving birth…” where “she” is being referred to as his mother, this line is an idiom for taking life and giving life. Some teens are forced into parenthood and cannot handle the responsibilities. Fathers leave and mothers neglect, nevertheless a child will find security and guidance wherever it seems to appear. In the next couple of lines, Kendrick states: “I-I wonder if you ever knew you were a role model to me at first”, most young black men do not have a positive male figure in their lives, so they are forced to look for the next thing. Whether it is their mother or the local dope boy, it will be found and it cannot be said whether it is positive or negative. As an adult, Kendrick is faced with the reality that not everyone may have his personal wellbeing in favor and all he sees “…is Wile E. Coyotes in the room…” He had to be the Roadrunner; be smart and cunning when faced with…

Also, in the second verse of this song Drake reminisces on the loss of his father. After the divorce, Drake’s father moved to the states leaving him to be raised by his mother. He reflects on how charges his father had, and the lack of child support kept him from coming back to Drake, however Drake’s Uncle, his mother’s brother, was like a father figure to him. Drake remembers how his uncle told him he could be anything he wanted to be in life, and that he would be success.
