Rimbun Jungle in Pahang
QUESTION: A TIME I HAD TO MAKE A VERY DIFFICULT DECISION.

Rimbun Jungle somewhere at Pahang is a very famous jungle for those who like to spend their time camping, hiking and also jungle tracking. I like to spend my time camping with my best friend forever. Her name is Azizah. Luckily, we share a same interest in spending our time to get close with nature. Azizah studied about nature science so that is way she love mother earth. But, it is different with me because I like to release my tension with spending my time at jungle because when I get close to the nature I could find a peace from there. Whatever the reason, we are always together because of our friendship is stronger than everything in this world. I still remember two years ago, I went to the Rimbun Jungle for camping with her because I want to spend my semester break and tried to help her finish her assignment about wild plant that we can found in that jungle. When we arrived at the jungle, we quickly searched a nice place to set up our tent. Azizah told me that she had found such a great place that we never discover yet. Although, the place was far than usual and quiet lonely I still agreed with her because I just want to try something new. But for the first time my heart feeling that something bad will happen. However, I just hope that nothing will happen. Azizah suddenly become moody than usual, she will get mad if I made mistake. She was a very kind, lovely and caring person. I never expect that she will change although I made a small mistake. Nobody was perfect in this world. So, I try to talk with her but she refused to listen. We get fight each other. Then, she picked up her stuff and go away from the place. At the moment, I feel so regret because I said something that made her angry with me. I supposed to be careful and tried to make her comfortable with me. ‘I am sorry’ that was the word that always playing around of my head. I feel so worried about her because the time will be dark soon. ‘Help, please help me’. That was Azizah. I tried to find her but I could not find where she is. Her scream became louder and louder. Suddenly, I found something that make my heart broke into small pieces. She was trapped in a quicksand and the situation become worth because of the passage through the quicksand was very dangerous. There was a poisonous plant and thorn along the passage. If I want to save her, I must hurt myself. I have to make a difficult decision. I cannot wait much longer to make a decision because if I wait for a help she will sunk deep in the quicksand. I walk through the passage and I feel like I will dead if I continued to walk but for my best friend forever I will do everything although I must hurt myself. I pulled her hand and she get up from the quicksand.

I cannot stand on the ground any longer, after a minute I collapsed because my feet bleeding and the thorn were in my feet. Azizah tried to find help and get us out of the place. From the tragedy, she never got mad on me anymore. We became a very close friend even more closed than before. She said that she was really regretted for what she had done. I will never remember the situation again because from the tragedy I have to make a difficult decision and I have lost my ability to walk again. That was the implication that I have to accept from my decision. I rather died than saw my friend stay in trouble.

With him there are no happiness points or rolling in of the tides to warn me of imminent danger, therefore there is no transition from pleasurable fertile earth to desolate wasteland. He makes it evident that I am not welcome in his desert, but I take a gamble by treading on. Scorching winds and swirling sands ward off all travelers except me. Though we are supposed to be partners, I’m a naive and lone wanderer. When I look to the hazy horizon to see miles upon miles of arid land I ask myself why I wander around where my voice falls on deaf dunes and where the screaming winds immediately sweep away my footprints from the sand. His desert is searing and unforgiving. In place of rolling currents are swells of sand and lakes dried long ago. Thick clouds are replaced by the endless sky here, offering no protection from the eternal sunlight. My pale skin cracks and dries in such harsh heat. Nevertheless, I can’t be angry with the desert for its lack of water or high temperatures, and I most certainly can’t be angry for having unfulfilled desires for an oasis which will be…

One morning, we decided to go out with some of the guests from the hostel for a hike along the hills by the seashore. These hills were covered in thick blades of grass but had rock faces that were pointed out towards the water. If you looked to your left you’d see these hills go for miles; mound after mound, circular shaped huts with cone shaped roofs sitting on top. African trees as well, looking as if the wind was blowing all the branches to one side of the trunk but they stood absolutely still; frozen in time. To your right you’d see the ocean go out for as far as you can see, while standing on a cliff with an almost vertical drop. From looking at the cliffs from the sides, it showed the many trails descending down the cliffs made by mountain goats and every once and a while you could see one half way down; climbing up. Although our surroundings were incredible, the heat was as well. We went through several bottles of water through-out the hike. Our leader, an African local, lead us down one of the more climbable hills to the ocean floor where it was covered in rock. With the sun beating down on us we felt trapped because we couldn’t swim in the water, the waves were too strong we’d be thrown up against the rocks.…

Upton Sinclair’s novel, The Jungle, gives a heart breaking portrayal of the hardships faced by the countless poverty stricken foreign laborers in the slaughter houses of Chicago. In the early 1900's, strikes, riots, labor unions, and new political parties arose across the country. The government, with its laissez-faire attitude, allowed business to consolidate into trusts, and with lack of competition, into powerful monopolies. These multi-million dollar monopolies were able to exploit every opportunity to make greater fortunes regardless of human consequences. Sinclair illustrates the harsh conditions in Packingtown through a Lithuanian immigrant family and their struggles to survive. Jurgis Rudkus and his extended family come to the United States to find work and to make a better life for themselves. When everyone finds employment right away, the family begins their lives in the unfamiliar United States with optimism, enthusiasm, and naivety. Their inexperienced attitude is evident when they purchase a small rickety house. Slowly, they awaken to the harsh realities of their surroundings. There's the mortgage to pay, interest on the mortgage, food, clothing, shoes, and coal that needs to be bought, but there isn’t enough money to pay for it all. Therefore, this leads the rest of the family to trudge out into the cold and merciless streets of Chicago to beg for work and money. However, Jurgis and his family still lacked the sufficient income necessary to make ends meet. Through the duration of the novel, tragedy after tragedy strikes this family, leading the family into ruin. After a long series of unfortunate events, the reader finds Jurgis fresh out of prison, his wife dead, and his family scattered. Jurgis eventually overcomes his misfortunes and finds salvation in a newly formed political party, called Socialism.…

The Jungle, written by: Upton Sinclair, looks under the microscope at the deplorable conditions under which the people who lived and worked at Chicago's Union Stockyards were subjected to. along with the impact those conditions had on an emigrant family from Eastern Europe. Its plot takes in the Packingtown district. During the early 20th Century the migration of European immigrants to America's Midwest was prolific. What they found was oppression, dehumanization and exploitation. Working the stockyards offered these immigrants a first glimpse at what the United States would eventually reveal. They were enticed by stories of wealth and opportunity and tired of the remnants of feudalism and classicism that existed in their homelands. The industrial revolution was still in its infancy and owners of large corporations thought themselves purveyors of the American ideal. Sinclair describes the brutal conditions that these immigrants found and the cold reality of life in the United States. This book reveals a look at an America that still has resonance today.…

In the book “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair the author gives a critique of the early twentieth century labor practices in the growing cities of the United States. It gives people an opportunity to see all the factors that were going on not only in the meatpacking industry, but also the way working people lived and all the challenges that they had to overcome to just be able to survive. It also shows how the working conditions are in the city of Chicago. It shows how workers did their tasks in unsanitary conditions. The book would say that they would be working and rats would be passing by and because they were so tired they did not care anymore.…

In my earlier years my family took me camping to a lake. My cousins came as well, which made it even more enjoyable. When we arrived at the campsite, I was in awe. It was something out of a Disney movie. There were towering pine trees shielding us from the sun’s rays. Wild plants and bushes surrounded our campsite, but not too far away was a clearing in the bushes where we can see the lake in all its glory. People were fishing, kayaking, swimming, and playing with their dogs.…
