Ernest Trump's Influence On Social Media
Trump quotes one of his Twitter fans to accept the title of “the Ernest Hemingway of 140 characters,” which alludes to his social media prowess. With a few million more followers than his peers on both Facebook and Twitter, he is the most tweeted-about candidate by a mile (Smyth). Trump's memorable tagline, "make America great again," pops up throughout social media. In a time where people check their social media feed for the latest news, Trump has been most successful in harnessing the power of social media to boost his campaign.

Unlike the other candidates, he isn't afraid to stir up drama, securing him a spot in the public eye. Social media favors short messages which can trigger a response. Trump's popularity climbed to new heights …show more content…
His self-assured attitude is acceptable for inciting social media riots. Social media values emotional appeals over logical appeals. Trump often uses Twitter to poke his opposition and rally his supporters. His impolitic tweets attracted a wide variety of responses and helped him build a vast fanbase (Carr). When Trump posts a controversial opinion, there are always many fans backing him up in the debate that ensues. All the replies to Trump's tweet: "Huma Abedin, the top aide to Hillary Clinton and the wife of perv sleazebag Anthony Wiener, was a major security risk as a collector of info," were focused on the racism and the disrespect dropped on Anthony. Trump supporters countered replies made against Trump in multiple ways, including the citing of American pride and Trump's charitable actions towards civil rights groups. Hillary's Twitter, however, is a free-for-all because people don't care for her boring advertisements. By controlling the Internet's agenda, Trump can stay relevant in people's busy lives.

On social media, Trump supporters have the chance to convert the outnumbered Trump haters over to their side. People go online looking to reinforce their biases (Carr). Trump supporters can always find new posts on his social media to reinforce their point of view and contribute to the fight against Hillary supporters. Funny images posted by fans portray Hillary as a liar. Even Hillary's Twitter is full of retorts from Trump supporters. In the first description of Trump, a woman who lives next to a Trump resort calls Trump a spoiled “strange fish.” She then describes his toddler-like tantrums, causing an image of diaper wearing Trump whining and flopping for what he wants to pop into our heads. Katz’s next proof is a video of Mexican comedians dressed as Donald Trump performing an act written from his statements. The comedians are all wearing fake guts, Neanderthal clothing, and blonde wigs. Katz writes, “It's striking how many people know of him at all,” as if Trump is some new American celebrity who is just now getting attention for his statements. It is almost impossible to not recognize the Trump name. His name is on everything he owns, and he owns buildings, programs, and boats worldwide. Trump had been known by the world way before he decided to run for president.
