Haley Wirtz Epidemiology Research Report Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of a disease. You need to at least have a Master’s Degree and you need to study a broad range of methods, such as health promotion, disease prevention, and being able to assess the quality of health care. You also need simple skills like being able to create and fill out computer applications and you need to take extensive, detail­filled notes. The average epidemiologist makes $65,270 a year, averaging out to be about $31.38 an hour.
Typical duties an epidemiologists performs:
1) Plan and direct studies of public health problems.
2) Collect and analyze data
3) Perform interviews to find the needed patterns to solve the case
4) Hold meetings to communicate their findings to health practitioners and the policymakers 5) Manage public health programs, such as clinics
6) Supervise professional, technical, and clerical personnel, they basically are the administrators of the said clinics
7) Perform lab tests on collected data to learn all that can be learned on a disease to eventually make a vaccine/cure
8) Put all data into files on the computer to back it up and make for easy finding
9) Put on conferences to inform the public
10) Search for the cures and makes vaccines
They search for patterns by examining the people, place, and times. A typical investigation goes like this:

1) They prepare for the investigation, get out all equipment needed and make space in a lab. 2) They collect samples and interview people to make a diagnosis.
3) They verify the diagnosis and establish there is an outbreak.
4) Determine the personal characteristics of the case (person, place, and time).
5) The develop a hypothesis and then refine it as they go.
6) They finds ways to control and prevent the outbreak.
7) Finally, they communicate their findings to everyone, including the public.
