Environmental Racism Essay
To conclude this hard to process topic, environmental racism is something that is entirely present. It not only ruins our earth, but our relationship with the earth. Environmental racism secludes and alienates people who keep the sense of community, humanity and environment alive the most. The North can be viewed as greedy, and over-consumers, which is why we need to find a way to limit energy consumption of places like that. I must not get ahead of myself though, because we have seen people of the North being singled out and victimized, such as the people of Flint, …show more content…
That alone is an issue. Because I am not viewed as an indigenous person, nor am I a victim of environmental racism, I consume like I have nothing to fear. I noticed how I was acting months ago and I stopped myself in my tracks. Now, I ensure that my lights are energy efficient, I turn off any device I am not using, I use a laptop and charge it fully, then unplug it. As a family, we try to diminish our ecological footprint by turning off all the lights and air conditioning when we leave the house. We also have two energy efficient vehicles and plan on continuing in this path. I never once thought about my effect on the earth before, but once I was educated and informed on the matter, I knew exactly what I had to do. If each family lives as if their resources are not unlimited, then we will not only be reducing our ecological or carbon footprint, but we will also be speaking up for those who have always provided more to our environment than we have. Indigenous people who endure environmental racism need to be spoken up for, and hopefully by taking a stand against energy consumption, we can prove that they are not the issue here – we

I absolutely believe that in order to get a fair trial a jury must be racially diverse. Without a diverse jury I do not believe a black man can receive a fair trail from an all-white jury or a white police officer charged with police brutality can receive a fair trial from an all-black jury. However, while there are exceptions to the rules for some cases, for the most part statics have shown that racial bias and unequal treatment under the law is prominent in today’s society. Institutional racism is imbedded in the foundation of our criminal justice system. Institutional racism can be defined as a collective failure of an organization to provide an appropriate and professional service to people because of their color, culture or ethnic origin.…

As a prerequisite for our Environmental Justice class, our group was responsible for putting together a Word Cloud presentation based on the readings we have covered in class. I was assigned the Laura Pulido essay, “Geographies of Race and Ethnicity 1: White Supremacy VS. White Privilege in Environmental Racism Research”. Guided by the Critical Thinking Method, I was able to clearly understand the reading. The critical thinking method was a helpful source to me not only because it helped me understand clearly, but because it helped me to identified Pulido’s concerns. I was able to identified Pulido’s target, also I was able to identify the why behind of her concerns, as well as what mattered most to Pulido and I. What matter most to me as a…

Throughout history there has been many stipulations concerning our environment and how we as a population has reacted to its cause for such drastic and demanding changes over time. There has also been many areas that is said to be over populated because of the high birth rate across the United States and the world in such third world countries as Asia, Haiti and Nigeria. Stats has taught us that the united states make up of 6% of the world’s population, and consume 50% of it’s global resources. Social justice as well as logic suggest that US population should consume less. Let’s not forget that when the US started building a democracy after discovering the new world, there was the Native American population that roamed free in the wilderness across the US and tried to prevent the discovery of such a land. But unsuccessfully accomplished that task because of the Europeans quest for greed for profit that was obtained by more ownership of land to produce crops, building, expansion ect. With the help of free labor by African slaves that where brought just for that purpose alone more than three hundred years before they were freed due to a battle between North America and South America in which ended in the declaration of independence that was signed in 1865.…

Environmental racism is the social injustice represented by the disproportionately large number of health and environmental risks cast upon peoples of color in the communities in which they live. On a national scale, nothing illustrates Canada's startling environmental inequities more clearly than the lack of access to clean drinking water in First Nations Communities. First Nations homes are 90 times more likely to be without safe drinking water than other Canadian homes. This lack of access to clean water not only highlights a dangerous health risk to First Nations communities, it is also a denial of First Nations’ access to cultural and social practices involving water; in effect, this neglect by the government of British Columbia is a…
