The National Industrial Security Program (NISPOM) Department of Defense (DoD) 5220.22M from February, 1995 Section 5 describes how magnetic disks are to be sanitized via overwriting. Within Section 5 it states, “To clear magnetic disks, overwrite all locations three (3) times (first time with a character, second time with its complement, and the third time with a random character)” (United States, 1995). It would seem a three or seven pass wipe would be sufficient, but this level of wiping is not considered necessary today. The density of tracks in hard drives over 15GB in size, which were built after 2001lend them to be satisfactorily wiped with one pass. According to Kissel, Regenscheid, Scholl & Stine (2014), one pass of a fixed data value is sufficient to clear a hard drive, but also states more than one pass is optional. The reason for the new idea of using one wiping pass comes from the lack of space between the tracks and how the writing heads are large enough to cover the space between the tracks. The majority of hard drive wiping tools tout they are DoD 5220.22M compliant and some are actually certified as compliant.…

As the new head nurse of this unit, I propose to reduce attrition by increasing nurse retention. I have been reviewing the exit interviews of the nurses that have come to this unit seeking experience just to move to another unit once they have completed the one year on this floor. I have developed a new plan for orientation which I would like to implement and analyze the results. I would like the outcome to produce a more loyal group of nurses willing to stay on this floor for many years and reduce our cost of training new graduate nurses as well as new nurses that come to our facility from another facility. I believe this proposal will boost staff morale as well as lower the frustration levels that a new nurse or graduate nurse encounters when beginning a new job.…

During the Civil War, the U.S. Congress passes a conscription act that produces the first wartime draft of U.S. citizens in American history. The act called for registration of all males between the ages of 20 and 45, including aliens with the intention of becoming citizens, by April 1. Exemptions from the draft could be bought for $300 or by finding a substitute draftee. This clause led to bloody draft riots in New York City, where protesters were outraged that exemptions were effectively granted only to the wealthiest U.S.…

I do not agree with the reinstitution of a military draft. In 1973 the military draft was lifted in the United States and with good reason. The United States should not rely on a draft to fill military vacancies but rely on recruitment. It is true that the military offers incentives and luxuries that some civilians could not afford otherwise such as food, shelter, and medical care. However, they are just that, incentives. The military is an option and should remain that way. Many enlist for different reasons, some with economical reasons, others with strong political urges, but they enlist out of their own desires, beliefs, and more importantly, free will. Some see the military as a way of life; others see it as the only way to educate themselves in a society where education is valued so highly. With rising tuition costs, many enlist in the reserves as a guarantee for their degree. College is costly and even with the aid of tuition assistance and can leave a graduate drowning in debt. These are all choices all college bound 18-25 year olds make and some just do not have the luxury of choosing.…
