Abstract

The proverb comes from life, which is a national language and culture of highly enriched and concentrated expression. It can reflect a country's geography, history, religion and cultural background. So culture is a key to study a nation’s prverb . Proverbs treasure as two different languages, because of their unique culture showed a significant difference. Therefore, how to faithfully translate proverbs from a culture into another culture, became an unavoidable problem for each translator. With the help of some typical examples, we can see that English prverbs involve the origin, geographical environment, customs, religion, history, culture and other cultural side of the start. English Proverbs own characteristics and its unique cultural background make the translation of proverbs more difficult. In order to faithfully reproduce the fluent English of the original saying, we can make flexible use of four kinds of translation. This article discusses the literal translation, free translation. On the other translations, literal translation and free translation combining is particularly important. 摘要

谚语源于生活,是一个国家的语言和文化的高度浓缩的集中体现。它可以反映一个国家的地理,历史,宗教和文化背景。因此要想研究一个民族的谚语必须了解一个民族的文化。两种不同语言的谚语,因为其独特的文化,必然表现出显着差异。因此,如何忠实地把一种语言的谚语翻译到另一种语言,变成了每个翻译者不可回避的问题。从一些典型的例子中我们可以看出谚语中包含着起源,地理环境,风俗习惯,宗教,历史,文化和其他文化所涉及的方面。而英语又因为其独特的背景,大量的外来语和受其他文化的影响,所以英语谚语的翻译又尤为困难。为了忠实地再现其原意,我们可以利用4种不同的方法进行翻译。本文讨论了直译,在其他方法中,直译和意译相结合的方法尤为重要。 关键词:英语谚语 文化 文化差异 翻译原则 翻译方法

Introduction

Proverbs from Life is a national language and culture and embodies a high degree of concentration. English philosopher Francis Bacon said: talent, wisdom and spirit from their proverbs shown.As the geography, history, religion, customs such as the difference of life, carrying the English and Chinese proverbs and cultural characteristics of different cultural information, they are closely linked with cultural traditions. (Zhang Ning 1999)With the help of some typical examples, from the origin, geographical environment, customs, religious beliefs, historical allusions and other cultural aspects, to discuss the English and the cultural differences between proverbs. As English and Chinese cultural differences, the same face value, the image of the meaning of words may have entirely different connotations.
