When many of us coame to College, we imagined that we would be in for the “time -of -our-lives.,” where pretty much everything we would ever want to do would be at our fingertips. It is reckoned that Colleges’s campus is meant for just that. It is a place for students to expand their horizons, explore themselves, and, most of all, get a liberal arts degree. Essentially this is all true. We are all privileged to be here, but if we are going to expand, and explore and graduate with a degree, however, we we have to figure out how to utilize our the college’s resources , and create our an own environment where we we can thrive. This means that, for one thing, we students need to understand the Department of Public Safety. is going to be part of our everyday lives. TheyThe department, known around campus as DPS, is go on patrol 24/7constantly and are always available in a variety of ways and for a variety of circumstances. Unfortunately , at times, theyDPS needs to issue some citations at times. While this is never something the Department of Public SafetyDPS or students look forward to, unfortunate encounters do happen and that can create some extremely negative stigmas. One can understand that at times such authority can be necessary (although the officers would much rather come to an agreement and avoid a confrontation), but far too often when such authority is exercised students react with by thinking that officers are out to get them.
Rumors are always damaging and alienating to the Department of Public SafetyDPS and cause relations between itthe officers them and the student body to become stressed.
After all, if an entire group of people became visibly nervous at the sight of you and stared at you like you were from a different planet

you when you passed by and looked at you as if you are from a different planet, it may make you feel a bit frustrated too. Yet, at the same time, students have the right to provide input
