English 101 Research Paper
English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.
First, I recall the apprehension on my first day. I remember thinking I was out of my league when trying to describe a simple paragraph about an online advertisement. I had not written anything in a very long time and I was struggling to come up with ideas. After the first paragraph I started to feel like things were coming back to me. The next few classes made me more comfortable and prepared me for my first essay.

It was time to add citations to an essay. My fear of citations was somewhat subdued by the interesting topic. We had to compare and contrast two fairy tales. These were not your average fairy tales either. But the fear was still there, for I never had any experience with citations in any format. However, the professor recognized this right away and in the very next class we covered in great detail how to do citations. I remember taking this knowledge and putting it to paper. After I was done with the MLA worksheets I felt confident enough to submit a paper with citations.
This new found confidence carried over into the next essay and I found myself with no fear of writing. In fact the next essay felt natural. I was able to prewrite, revise and use citations like it was second nature. I feel like this class has given me a new poise in writing and the dread I once felt about writing has disappeared. I now keep a prewriting journal with all of my ideas that seem to flood my mind when I am

I took one step into room A232 and had no clue what Col 101 would accomplish. There was barely anything I knew like what the class was about and the material it would involve. The class was a required course every full-time student needed and was worth two credits. People said no heavy, hard information was in there to learn, so there’s no stress. Now that I’m close to completing Col 101, the in depth discussions has taught me the importance and purpose of reaching the worth of my education. Freshman Composition has done so much for me academically. In previous years I have had to do little to no writing and even when we did there were no rules or writing process we had to follow. This class has built a great basis for me, towards my academic future. I do realize that I am far away from being even an average writer, but I enjoy and accept that challenge to myself on becoming a competent writer. Parts of my writing, that still need to work are my introductions and sentence fluency. While I believe that my strong suits are, that once I get past my obstacles of writing that I have the potential to write something that will make a difference, other than that all my skills are still very raw. I’ve learned many things during EN101, the…

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

When choosing classes a person normally does not choose a class that they will regret or even cringe when thinking about the class. However, when you have no other choice and are required to take such a class then you must complete it. When I started this class I hated writing, my brain is just not set up for this and with attention deficit disorder my brain starts to wander. I am not going to use that as excuse or even a crutch I have had it long enough that I know how to work through it. Now that I have taken Writing 101s I have leaned a lot of structure and discipline and my writing has come a long way even though it is not perfect. I still…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

Freshmen year of college is a frightening thing to think, especially the frightening things you hear about it, such as a twenty-page essay APA style. Although actually going through your freshmen year you learn so much more than the four years of high-school you were enrolled in. Over the Spring semester I’ve developed more skills or habits when writing essays in this course as well in my other classes such as History, Marriage and Courtship, and Assessment and Observation. I’ve gotten much better at managing my own time since January giving me a sense of what needs to be done before the deadline approaches. I’ve improved on writing my outlines and become more assertive in my writing. Even before I began English 1320 my outlines were vague and didn’t have much details as to what I have planned on talking about in my essays. My evidence in previous essays wasn’t as credible and present as it is now in my current essays. I’m now able to write more than I used to and not fear the number 1,000 or 2,000 word essays mostly due to the fact of learning to use the database.…

I have always enjoyed writing; however, I have never enjoyed the process of writing as much as I do now. Entering this semester, I felt confident in my skills as a writer and did not expect to learn as much as I have. Each class, I found myself learning new skills to apply to my writing. I think the most important thing I learned this semester is that writing does not have to be a daunting task and that writing is about what one does with the knowledge he has.…

After enrolling in the Dual Credit English Composition 1 class, I was afraid of many aspects of the course. I was petrified of meaningless things: deadlines, word counts, and plagiarism. Although each of those aspects are important to consider and be mindful of, they are, in no way, anything to worry over. I lost confidence in myself and my writing, through my own frightening thoughts. Almost a full semester into the class, I know now that through hard work and careful, in depth writing that I can accomplish anything that I put my mind to. I learned that my silly fears were restraining me from accomplishing great things. I was able to overcome many obstacles pertaining to my writing, while in this class. One major obstacle that I was able to overcome and improve myself greatly on was transitioning; I ask myself, “How was I able to improve my transitioning skills in just one semester?” but the answer is quite clear: practice.…

Since I have not heard any rumors about English 101, I cannot judge how this class may go for me. English and Writing is not one of my strengths but I really believe this class will help me turn my weakness into a strength. The way we were taught to write formal essays in high school are nearly the same as it is in college. Using the MLA format was big in my high school because we were told it was going to be a necessity in college. Something different about this class is having to write everyday. Every time we enter this class we should have a piece of writing ready to discuss and peer edit.…
