On November 27, 1942 at 10:15 Johnny Allen Hendrix was born in King County Hospital. Johnny 's name was changed 4 years later to James Marshal Hendrix, the name he is better know by today. Just a few months after Jimi turned 16 his mother Lucille died. Jimi got his first guitar later in the year of his mother 's death. ("Time Line") Many people think his heartbreak over his mother 's death is why Jimi turned to the guitar and writing music because, "At its core, Hendrix 's music was all about the blues." (Fricke). A year later in 1959 Jimi played in his first concert with "The Velvetones". Then Jimi dropped out of high school to join the army. He was only in the army for about 3 months because he got injured during a mission and was discharged. Less than a year after being discharged from the army Jimi began to play on the R & B circuit. After about 4 years of that Jimi formed his own band called "Jimmy James and The Blue Flames". In this band is where he was discovered by a man named Chas Chandler. ("Jimi Hendrix Biography") Then on October 6, 1966 Jimi Hendrix 's most popular band was formed, "Jimi Hendrix Experience". Over the course of about 2 years the Jimi Hendrix Experience released their 1st, 2nd and…

Elvis Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Vernon and Gladys Presley (Elvis 1). From rather humble beginnings, young Presley was always very close to his parents. “He was deeply devoted to his parents, especially his mother Gladys, and was raised to have a strong faith in God” (Elvis 1). “Raised by loving , working-class parents, Presley’s family had little money, and they moved from place to place frequently” (Elvis 1). Despite being rather poor Presley had a wonderful relationship with his parents and although living through such a racist period in our history and in rather racist areas young Presley didn’t allow racism to affect his choices in music. “Elvis had moved to Memphis by his teens, where he absorbed the vibrant melting pot of Southern popular music in the form of blues, country, bluegrass and gospel” (Unterberger 1). Some of these music types mentioned were for specific races only but Presley listened and was influenced by all types of music during his childhood proving that he maintained his love for music despite the criticism he received for doing something a white man should not do. Influence by many major music genres, gospel especially was quite important to young Presley. “Presley attended the Assembly of God Church with his parents, where gospel music became an important influence for him” (Elvis 1). His obvious acceptance of the different types of music helped him changed the minds of many people later during his career because it proved to them that even though Presley was famous for Rock ‘n’ Roll he was also a deeply religious, something many fans were as…

He began singing locally as "The Hillbilly Cat", and then signed with a local recording company, then in 1955 with RCA.
