Ellen Raskin Character Analysis
Ellen Raskin and award winning author was recognized for Figgs & Phantoms named a Newberry Honor Book in 1974 and The Westing Game won the 1979 Newberry Award. The Westing Game meets all of the requirements for the Newberry Medal. Ellen Raskin was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and E.P Dutton in an American publishing company. (“Ellen Raskin”) The mystery is complex, but suitable for children. It is geared for the upper ages allowed within the terms of the Newberry award, which is fourteen (“The John Newberry Medal”). There are many characters in the story and they all play an important role in the game playing out and the scenes jump back and forth, so the reader needs to be at a level of reading to put the pieces together.
