Eleanor Cardozo Case Study
1. Consider the artworks you have discussed in the first four question sets. Which of these works was the most valuable to you, personally? And what makes that artwork so valuable to you?
Personally, I liked the sculptor's work. It was a gymnastic performance of a lady at the Olympics that was crafted by a well-known sculptor or Eleanor Cardozo. The art work was named Swathe. It belonged to a series of sculptures created on the bases of that particular event to elaborate its various aspects and sub-activities. These are some aspects that delineated my decision as I made my decision in which artwork was the most inspirational.
Following are the reasons which made me liked that work more than other forms or sets of artwork that I selected for

It is commendable how the artist first visited the event with the sole purpose to observe and exploration that resulted in her magnificent artwork. Eleanor herself has been into the gymnastic. She has the first knowledge that is confirmed by every detail she validated in this piece. Its reaffirmed that her attentiveness studied the ongoing event and captured the real moments in her work. Proper planning involved in this study made it perfectly well for a more fitting in this specific contemporary work. Further, it was not only the representation of a moment from a particular event, but, an acknowledgment to the cultural and the contemporary era (as the Olympics is globally recognized cultural event). Lastly, it was a dedication given to the human beauty which is always the main theme of Eleanor’s work.
2. What is your favorite form of art (painting, dance, poetry, film, etc.)? Why do you like it so much? What role does that art form play in your own life? And what role does it play in the rest of society?
In my opinion film is one of those few forms which fascinates me more in comparison to rest of the artistic types. Following are the reasons of ranking it in the top section of my art

I like Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings because of the beautiful colours and oversized objects. When I look at one of her flower paintings, such as "Red Poppy", I could stare at it for a long time and find so much detail. Georgia O'Keeffe made a simple object that I normally take for granted and turned it into something really important and beautiful.…

The two artworks I have chose are the Goddess Uma and Armored Guardian King Trampling Demon. The reason why I chose these sculptures are because I thought the Goddess Uma was interesting in beauty because she has four arms, has very long and skinny legs, and just the way the top of the body was formed. I chose the Armored Guardian King Tramping Demon because the colors intrigued me and he looked strong and was wondering at first what was he was standing on, his costume was well detailed and the way his head was not colored at all was also interesting.…

An artist assumes one, or a combination, of four roles when creating a work of art. These four roles are; 1) to help viewers see the world in a different way; 2) to create a record of the culture of their time and place; 3) to make working objects and buildings more enjoyable to look at and also to give them meaning; and 4) to give form to personal feelings, universal truths, immaterial things, or spiritual forces (Syre, 2010).…

The framings on the artwork were spectacular. I loved how they varied in sizes and décor. They seemed to be set up around the artwork in order to strengthen the piece, in the sense of quality wise. They were never too extravagant to take away from the original artworks beauty. Some of the frames themselves alone could have been works of art.…

The second work I chose to write about is The Genius of the Dance (Le genie de la danse) by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux. I knew nothing about the subject matter of this work before visiting the museum, but I was very attracted to the beauty of it. The Genius is designed to be taken apart in certain places that are held together by pins. The separate parts were molded and cast, then joined by hand, and the seams were then covered by extra metal. The drapery gives the effect of movement, or dancing. The Genius of the Dance is a reduced version of The Dance with the same central figure. Also, Carpeaux got a lot of hate for the female nudity in The Dance, so he excluded them in The Genius of the Dance. I don’t think the texture or size of the sculpture adds to the impact of the work, because it wasn’t that big, and bronze was used quite a lot. I believe it’s the subject that attracts the viewers to this sculpture.…

My favorite two pieces would have to be Chris Kahler’s Viral A-9 and Lindsay Mills’s Beautiful Confusion. The way the gel and paint looked on the canvas in Chris Kalher’s work of art was really cool. It had my attention as so as I turned to walked down the stairs. It looked like a growing virus. Lindsay Mills’s use of colors and the way they we applied to the canvas was amazing. I told my wife I wanted to buy it and she said no you cannot. Her work of art was the most appealing to me in the whole…

Storytelling is more important to me than anything else, and I believe film is one of the most rewarding and honest forms of storytelling. Ever since I was a little kid I have been in love with movies. When I was nine I got a camcorder for Christmas, and I would make my friends help me remake scenes from my favorite movies, and when they said the lines wrong I would yell at them and make them do it over and over until they got it right or got so annoyed with me that they went home.…

While I was in the museum, I spent most of my time looking at paintings and I found the painting of Saint Gertrude by Miguel Cabrera to be quite beautiful. Painted in 1803, Saint Gertrude’s face appears quite serene to the viewer and has religious appeal as well to those who are Christian or Catholic. The serene expression on her face makes her appear very beautiful in a motherly way in my eyes. And while I was there, I saw a marble statue known as Semiramis by William Wetmore that was carved in 1873. This statue has a classical feel to it and I adore statues that look classical because it makes them appear timeless. And it is that timelessness that gives the statue beauty. Though it appears fragile, I am sure it will be seen by many for many years to come. The last work of art that I enjoyed was an oil painting by John Sargent, which was titled Dorothy and it was made in 1900. What I like about oil paintings, is that it is a media that allows for the painter to create realism. The painter gives life through a range of colors, which you can see when…

    The Human Experience

The art work that stands out most to me is one that portrays a young boy as a soldier in the US Army. The human experience from this could be expressed as one of many, love, loss, pain, hope, despair, values, beliefs and as we hope not but even death. I think the artist had love, loss and pain in mind with the painting. This is meaningful to my life because I feel that this is a portrait of myself as a young boy. I joined the US Army at seventeen, finished my basic training, school house training and was shipped off to Iraq with my unit before I was even close to being eighteen. I believed in what I was doing, I lost a lot of family and some really great friends in that war. I too had a picture taken with my uniform and full battle rattle, as we called the bullet proof vest, on. In that picture I was all smiles but honestly I was extremely scared and felt almost alone. This picture shows a young man with the same uniform on smiling. It really takes me back in time and allows me to see what war did to the once innocent young smiling boy that I was. I still to this day believe in all I have done, know that somewhere in there I have done them for the right and values of America but still it bothers me now. It also makes me fear for the young boy in the picture, fear for the outcome that will happen.…

The first piece of artwork that will be looked is from the Renaissance Era. Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”(c. 1519) a painting that is known around the world, which has been known to cause skepticism as to who is this woman. Did she really exist? Or is this merely a self-portrait that Da Vinci was able to show his private devotion for the female form? The second piece of artwork that will be discussed is from The Middle Ages. Antonio Veneziano’s “Virgin and Child”(c. 1380) both pieces of art work stem from different eras but share many commonalities as well as shows the transformation of art techniques from Sfumato, to perspective, as well as linear perspective, Humanism, foreshortening and more between each era.…
