El Crack Analysis
The significance of my title “El Crack” comes from nicknames given to soccer players who do amazing things in the field from their hard training hours. Meanwhile, my father and uncle both loved to play soccer; they eventually made me go outside to play soccer with them at a young age. They commented on how I could become a soccer prodigy with the amount of skill I had as an amuetuer player. Next, I played soccer for about a year it didn’t go so well for me and my team. On the other hand, I trained in cold weather, thunderstorms, hail, and really hot temperatures. A “Crack” is someone who is driven to succeed no matter what the situation a person is in. For my first section “Where I’ve been” I chose two quotes that related in some way to my life. The first quote Is from the chapter The Ferryman. …show more content…
The person I was in the early ages had very low amounts of people to depend on for help, needing someone to talk to, and friends were all running low. Eventually, as the years passed I ran along a bunch of friends, new family members, I saw my soccer ball as a friend and not as an object, my family started to reunite once again, and then that special someone came along. The quote says, “That seems to be the way of things. Everyone takes, everyone gives. Life is like that.” at this point Siddhartha is talking to the merchant; apparently the merchant lives off of the goods of others and Siddhartha believes that is basically what life really is. The second quote I chose was written by Hesse, “You have chosen a splendid life…” this part of the book Siddhartha is talking to the Ferryman about how he chose a wonderful life living by the river. Furthermore, I chose this quote that represented me because I really do not regret anything I have done in order to be the person I am now; I love the life I live no matter what anybody says because I worked hard to be

John Coy has successfully managed to write a story explaining how the struggle of being the best on a sports team and having a hard life at home will begin to effect you and the measures you will go through to retain your status. Crackback, by John Coy, is a very realistic book about the struggles of an average teenage boy named Miles Manning. The American author, who mostly focused on sports fiction, once again entertained us with this tale of Miles’ home and social life. From this story, we can take a valuable lesson in keeping our moral up and remembering that it always gets better.…

One of the first precepts that Hesse tried to depict was the four noble truths: life means suffering, the origin of suffering is attachment, the cessation of suffering is attainable, and the path of cessation is suffering. Hesse shows us these four truths when Siddhartha leaves his home and has to break off from his family and live as a Samarian. I think that Hesse has depicted this part of the story to us to show that if someone wants enlightenment, he/she has to let go of what they have in order to reach the higher being that the Buddhist believe to be in. Another part in the book that showed this is when Siddhartha and his friend’s beliefs where clashing with his own. Siddhartha and his friends had traveled together for a while and when they all realized it was best for them all to go their separate ways it then turned into a test of Siddhartha’s ability to let go. For so long Siddhartha had grown up with someone always there by his side, so of course doubt was on his mind when he left, but once he realized his ability in doing things on his own it was much easier.…

Wealth and social status is almost personified as hypnotising and attractive. This highlight’s their need to reject such intense indulgence in order to obtain their real goals. As well as love and wealth social status also begins to play a large part of these gluttonous experiences. Siddhartha suggests it becomes an obsession more than desire. ‘For a long time Siddhartha had lived the life of the world without belonging to it. The years passed by. Enveloped by comfortable circumstances, Siddhartha hardly noticed their passing. He had become rich…people liked him.’ This suggests that while love and wealth are a distraction, they are also a waste of time and ridicules the fascination of humans with such things especially with the detrimental effects it has on one’s journey to self-discovery. For example when he says ‘Living without belonging’ he distancing himself from the game he is playing. In the Alchemist, Santiago almost abandons his personal legend because a thief steals the gold he was given to travel to Egypt. Instead he decided to start working in a shop in order to make enough money to go back to tending his sheep. ‘For nearly a year, he had been working incessantly…so that he could return to Spain with pride.’ The authors gave the protagonists the chance to settle for ‘comfortable life’ but both men resist the influence and power of effortless love and wealth so they could achieve their goals. Siddhartha realises this when he says ‘How many years had he spent without any lofty goal…content with small pleasures yet never really…

Siddhartha discovered that the world, “is perfect at every moment; every sin already carries grace in it” and that “everything is necessary and good” (Hermann Hesse pg 116). The somewhat illusion in his statement is the comparison of sins carrying grace. Typically people are unwilling to risk anything since they are afraid that their choices are a sin whereas Siddhartha believes any given moment will be perfect. Throughout the story Siddhartha did not understand why the people of the world behaved the way they did. Since he had always felt different his spiritual world meant much more than the physical world he was trapped in for so long. He then realized that the world should not be compared to a desired imaginary world because it is the way…

Siddhartha follows Kamala’s advice and does not beg for work but, instead, acts in a manner that requires Kamaswami to treat him respectfully. Kamaswami quizzes Siddhartha about his desire to become a businessman, not expecting much. When Siddhartha answers honestly, and shows that he can read and write, Kamaswami is impressed and offers to take Siddhartha as a protégé. Siddhartha lives in Kamaswami’s house and works with him as a merchant. Siddhartha handles the business world with relative ease, but he does not emotionally attach himself to the results of his ventures, laughing off failure as easily as he laughs at his success. Disturbed by this flippant attitude, Kamaswami tries to motivate Siddhartha by giving him a small percentage of the gains from each transaction. Yet business remains only a game for Siddhartha, and nothing Kamaswami does can make him take business affairs more seriously. Kamaswami suggests that he try giving himself over to the pleasures wealth can bring, but still Siddhartha does not change his perspective. His life as a Samana showed him that many people live in a childish, animalistic way, suffering over things that have little real meaning, such as money, pleasure, and honor. Siddhartha rejects this sort of…

The first quote I choose “Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or walk in the darkness of destructive selfishness”- Martin Luther King Jr. Basically Martin Luther King Jr is saying that man must choose which path he is going to take either being more altruistic which means your showing more compassion toward others and longing for relationship is a part of human nature or more egotistical does things to make him/herself feel good. Each man can have their good/selfless sides or evil/selfish side of themselves so they can be either or. For example man can be more religious which can show a more selfless side or man can be naturally selfish if someone is harmed in a certain way they would only care about themselves. While the second quote “Children are naturally…
