Effects Of The Lunar Effect On Full Moon
For centuries, people have been blaming weird things on the moon. Dogs and cats are howling? It's a full moon. You see a weirdo hairy dude acting odd at the market? He's a werewolf and it’s close to the full moon. Maybe not so much today, but a long time ago, a lot of stuff got blamed on the moon. Although a majority of people no longer blame the big bad moon, some people believe that the moon has an affect on us. This is called the Lunar Effect. Actually several studies have been done to see if the moon really affects humans and animal. A study was done at the Colorado State University Veterinary Medical Center and the study showed that during the full moon more pets have come in. It showed that 23% more cats came in during the moon and 28% more dogs came in. Another study was done by the the British Medical Journal showed that twice as many people came in with animal bites. In 1995 a study was done by the University of New Orleans showed that cops and hospital workers were the strongest believers that the moon causes people to commit crimes during the full moon. Or at …show more content…
The thing is though, no one can actually prove that a full moon is why we commit crime or why animals act up. There is no real way to prove that the moon caused you beat some guy or that is caused your dog to attack the guy walking down the street. Eric Chudler, who was has studied the Lunar Effect at the University of Washington explained why it pretty much impossible to prove that the moon causeses bad things. “We would have have to perform an experiment and control all factors except for the moon. So, for example, you would take someone to a place with no full moon like on another planet and then compare the behavior to someone in the exact situation where the moon is full.” So since we can't do that it is impossible to say that the moon is

Friday November 30, 2012: The moon is now at its highest point in the night sky and it is now approximately 1:45 AM. The red-orange tint has gone away as there is no more sunlight for it to reflect. The moon has definitely shrunk as the night has progressed. It appears to be roughly ¾ of an inch in diameter when my arm is fully extended. This is roughly the same amount of a decrease as I had predicted in my hypothesis.…

In his last, and unfinished, story “The Last Tycoon,” readers can see a constant moon imagery. Piacentino says that the moon imagery “serve to highlight the illusive quality of Hollywood and the motion picture industry generally and that of Monroe Stahr particularly, the latter a major influence on the Hollywood dream world". The moon is meant to emphasize “magic, fantasy and the mystique of Stahr’s dreams.” ( Piacentino…

The full moon occurs when the sun and the moon are on the opposite side of each other. This means that the hemisphere of the moon is that’s facing the earth is completely illuminated by the sun. The other special thing about a full moon is a solar eclipse. Reason why is because a solar eclipse can only appear when the moon phase is at full moon. A solar eclipse often happens about every 6 months. We have names for these full moon events that occur. For example, farmers have a unique name for the full moon every name. These names are called Farmers’ Almanacs. Here are 12 names for each month: wolf moon for January, Snow moon for February, worm moon for March, seed moon for April, milk moon for May, mead moon for June, hay moon for July, corn moon for august, harvest moon for September, hunter’s moon for October, beaver’s moon for November, and oak moon for December. (Moon Connection, 2014) The moon does have some habitat effects on earth. One of the most commonly known effect are the tides in the ocean. This is because of the gravitational pull between the earth and the moon. The tidal effects are definitely high during a full or new moon. I would say that most surfers love the effect of the moon during these phases since the tides produce bigger waves. This effect doesn’t harm the earth at all but could be dangerous for ships on the water. Other than that, the full moon has some amazing features and is an awesome site to see at night.…

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dream. Wandering by lone sea breakers, and sitting by desolate streams. World losers and world forsakers, for whom the pale moon gleams.” (O 'Shaughnessy). Truer words could not have been spoken for the moon does gleam for us, it gives us light in the darkest of nights, it controls are tidal shifts and some scientist even believe that without it we would spin out of control into outer space.…

The sun and the moon form part of our universe, where they both hold their own power and value. The sun is in the center of the solar system with nine planets moving around it. The light given from the sun helps us experience the day and the night. After the sun, the moon is the the brightest object in the sky. Though the light that shines at night does not originate from the moon, it is reflected by sunlight. Their differences from each other are responsible for the life that we live in this Earth. Knowing about the sun and moon we can relate their relationship to the Spanish and the Aztec. The Aztec hold the position of the sun. When they first settled on the swampy island called Tenochtitlan, it became…

Have you ever considered that maybe the moon isn't exactly what it seems? It has been decided that the moon ended up where it is as a result of a collision with earth and another planet before the solar system was fully formed. There are many different conspiracy theories floating around out there that try and disprove this idea. One of the many theories regarding the moon is the Hollow Moon Theory. It may be hard to believe that anything other than science is in play here because there is scientific evidence that shows us how the moon came to be all of those years ago. It could be that astronomers and researchers have been wrong about how the moon was formed and aren't willing to go against what they believe and consider the possibility that maybe there is something else going on out there.…

What effect would it have on the human body, being in an environment where there is constant sunlight? Located at the Lunar North Pole, where all the water for farming is, there is constant sunlight, day in and day out. Prolonged human exposure to solar UV radiation may result in acute and chronic health effects on the skin, eye and immune system. Sunburn (erythema) is the best-known acute effect of excessive UV radiation exposure. Over the longer term, UV radiation induces degenerative changes in cells of the skin, fibrous tissue and blood vessels leading to premature skin aging, photodermatoses and actinic keratoses. Another long-term effect is an inflammatory reaction of the eye. In the most serious cases, skin cancer and cataracts can occur (World Health Organization). These statistics were taken on Earth, where we have an atmosphere to block most of the Sun’s harmful rays. In an environment where there is no atmosphere at all, the effects would be indescribable. After a year of exposure people would end up with 3rd degree sunburns, old wrinkly skin, and a bad case of cataracts. The conditions on the Moon are just not safe for any…

There is an idea that says one will never fully understand another’s plight until he or she walks in their shoes. When watching the film Under the Same Moon, or La Misma Luna, viewers gain a sense of what it means to be an undocumented immigrant from Mexico in the United States. The audience travels many miles with nine-year-old Carlitos Reyes in his journey across the border to reunite with his mother Rosario, who is working without documentation in California to provide a better life in the United States for her son someday (Riggen, 2008). Viewers not only realize how risky it is to cross the border, but also observe a sense of white racial superiority in the United States through the characters’ points of view.…
