Systems development life cycle, or SDLC, is the method used to develop information systems (Kroenke, 2012). It contains a basic model for the purpose of project management that defines the stages in information system development from start to finish with the objective of keeping the project within a budget (Rouse, 2009).
The main task for Amazon is to keep ahead of the competition and provide quality products with the benefits of new technological advancements and ideas. Implementing Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, or Amazon EC2, gives people the opportunity to use cloud computing to utilize Amazon’s computing environment and easier web-scale computing for developers (Amazon.com, 2012). Giving the customer the ability to use cloud computing can reduce the cost, provide flexibility, increase mobility, and provide more data storage (Web 2.0 Journal, 2008). The current issues with Amazon EC2 is the processor is relatively slow and the possibility of security concerns (De Gelas, 2011).
To implement new technology Amazon must start in the SDLC method of system definition. This is the first step to the method and Amazon should interview users from various parts of the world to get their opinions and concerns of using cloud computing. Speed and security will be a major factor among those asked. Once the system definition is completed the project will move to the next phase of requirements analysis. Requirements analysis is where the project team determines the requirements of the user. For cloud computing, the user is requesting faster speed for data access as well as making it as secure. After the requirements analysis is completed, the project moves to the component design phase. This phase is where the information from the previous phases is laid out to help build the hardware for the system, the operation system, and the security of the entire system.
