CYP Core 3.6/CU1523 working together for the benefit of children and young people

1.1. Explain the importance of multi-agency working and integrated working

Multi-agency means when a team of professional come together to meet the needs of children. These professional can be social workers, nursery practitioners, and health care professionals.
The importance of multi-agency is that the children’s needs are being met and their well-being is the most important thing. We should work with the professionals to help children met their goals and this is because we use communication between us and others.

Integrated means that the different services are all under one roof such as

Social worker
Health visitor
Nursery practitioner
Education professional
The importance of multi-agency and integrated is that every children matters (ECM) the government frame work aims to improve different outcomes for children such as:
Being in good health
Safe grading
Able to achieve goals and tasks
Positive contribution and well being

This is extremely important that as nursery practitioners should work together using the government policies and their guidelines to improve the above outcomes.
In my setting we have certain policies that we have to follow regarding the EYFS such as planning.
Multi-agency and integrated also provides the terms of inclusion and equal opportunities. This is so that a team of nursery practitioners and health professionals can support the needs of the child or young person and their families.
Working to these standards is a good approach and we can co-ordinate in a more effective way to provide equal opportunity.

1.2) Integrated working practices and multi agency working in partnership deliver better outcomes for children and young people because it enables all professionals dealing with the child to understand what plans may have been made, what progress the child is making, what help the child may need with certain areas of development or what equipment the child may need to make life easier by following the Every Child Matters outcomes. In my setting we have a child that suffers from a form of dwarfism. In my setting we have been given a special chair for the child to sit on during snack and playtime and smaller aprons for water, sand and painting so that the child is comfortable and safe. We are also in the process of getting a special stool to make hand washing easier and safer for the child. The child also has a one-to-one. Without the multi agency and integrated working practices the child would not have recieved the help they needed because all the professionals involved with the child would not have communicated properly and understood the needs of the child. We also have regular…

This could include for example their key person, a health visitor and their speech therapist. These professionals would meet on a weekly or monthly basis to discuss any changes that needed to be met to help the child’s progress and any improvements that had been made. For example they could track this in the child’s learning journey, and if the child cannot do something that they are expected to on the EYFS then the team of professionals would discuss a way to support the child and help them achieve this. Before multi-agency working was introduced the parents of the child or young person would’ve had to have seen a selection of different people before they had their needs met. None of which had communicated with each other which made it difficult to come to a final decision on what is best for the child. Multi-agency team working avoids this issue by congregating all the professionals in one place to come to the best conclusion possible. This gives the child the best opportunity to improve which meets the point of the Every Child Matters legislation. Meggit C et al 2012 highlights this by saying “Multi-agency working is a holistic approach to child care and education and is an important feature of the governments Every Child Matters framework” ref…

) Multi agency working helps to protect children and young people from harm. It is important to work with other agencies such as Health Visitors, Social Workers, Speech Therapists and Teachers to ensure that all needs of a child are met. Childminders work within the Every Child Matters Framework which states that a child should be healthy, safe, enjoy & achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being. The EYFS says that all professionals must work together for the best outcomes for the child. If a Childminder realises that the child’s speech and language is delayed they may be referred to a Speech Therapist who will then work together with the Childminder and parents to help the child. The EYFS states the every child is unique and as such should be able to access all areas of the curriculum of the setting they are in, they should be made to feel welcome and accepted into the setting. An example of how important multi agency working is, would be the death of Victoria Climbe, it prompted a large and thorough review of child protection services which highlighted the importance of multi agency working and information sharing. Victoria Climbe was an eight year old girl who suffered child abuse which led to her death in year 2000, Victoria was tortured, starved, had cigarette burns, repeated beatings with bike chains and belt buckles and had hammer blows on her toes. She had 128 separate injuries to her body when she died. Many services were involved in her case such as social workers, child protection officers, police, doctors and nurses. Through lack of communication and people not doing their job properly services missed the chance to intervene.…
