For starters, driverless cars cost way too much. A totally self driving car can add 10,000 dollars to the original price. (Tribune News Service). I mean who would want to spend that much money? And a self driving car will be completely electronic so it cost a lot more money to run it then a car running on gas.

The transition itself to self driving cars could be costly and dangerous. Self driving cars would be very expensive, so not every person could afford to own one. The danger of the switch is that self driving cars have to take into account the cars that are still operated by people: “‘autonomous drive vehicles are a wonderful idea, but the transition from driver-operated to driverless is likely to be filled with accidents.’ For instance, while approaching a traffic light, a self-driving car calculates that if it speeds up a little bit, it will be able to pass through the light, but the driver in the car in front decides to stop because he thinks he won’t make it on time. What do you think the result will be?” (Ramirez). The most controversial part of self driving cars however, is how the computer inside the car will decide whose life is more important in the case of an inevitable accident. “the cars will be designed to avoid accidents, but ‘If it happens where there is a situation where a car couldn’t escape, it’ll go for the smaller thing.’ But what if the smaller thing is a child?” (Spangler). It is very difficult to determine whose life is more important, and even more difficult to program a car to…

Excellent observation on the “Driverless Car Crashes” video as to how various external factors are influencing the application such technology. As you point out clearly, technological availability is not enough for implementation and offered to consumers. There are quite a large number of auto and technological firms such as Google, UBER, and like who are waiting in line to invest a large sum of money and eyeing changes to the market in order to unload their surplus idle cash into this venture. The challenges, however, would be how the existing legal framework transforms to accommodate the change, the interaction of these vehicles with the population, the consumer perception towards such change as well as the economic justification the availability…

Putting too much faith into self-driving vehicles will cause people to be less alert they themselves may depend too highly on the vehicle's decision making putting themselves at risk. The authors of a Gale opposing viewpoints article made it known that “At a 2013 technology conference in Las Vegas, researchers demonstrated how the computers in driverless cars could be hacked to making them drive erratically and dangerously. “These virus’ are capable of taking over a car's control system wreaking havoc on the road at any moment.
