In an analysis of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and one of many film adaptions, Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it is very evident that the female characters within the movie and the book are remarkably different. Not only is the love interest between Mina (Ryder) Harker and Dracula (Oldman) an addition to the movie, but the extreme sexualization of all the female characters within the film adaption portray the women in a new light. Through the distinction in character portrayal between the movie and the book, the underlying contrast between the “New Woman” and the Victorian Woman become very identifiable.…

This revolting image of Dracula is entirely absent in the film. By contrast, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is refined and enthralling. He has evolved from a monster of sorts to an enigmatic seducer, from a coldhearted “beast” of incontestable evil to a multifaceted human arousing a strange compassion and blurring the lines between monster and man. He is now an attractive and sophisticated aristocrat who moves about effortlessly society and whose only impetus is in the search for his beloved revitalized as Mina Harker.…

Dracula is a blood sucking, devious, evil vampire that many people have heard of. Dracula is known for being a fictional character, but Dracula was actually based off of a real person. Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia, was the person behind the cruel Dracula. Even though Dracula is a fictional character Vlad and Dracula have a lot more in common than what people will expect them to; given that one is just a made up vampire character from the head of someone who was believed to have been a madman to the Prince of Wallachia. Vlad the impaler was born while Dracula was created, both used different ways of torment on their victims, and both men had a weird taste for something unique.…

The legendary novel Dracula is gothic, bloody and oozing with sexuality. Bram Stoker 's vampiric plot reflects his ideology and experience and Dracula received a lot of attention from critics who showed various complex interpretations. During this course we have looked at critical essays that looked in depth at different scenes in Dracula and we drew different images from critics ' interpretations, which were built on their understanding of these scenes. Most of these critics, like Senf and Wicke, would argue within a small-scale circumference of sexuality, emphasized in the sexual desire of the Count to vamp women, or in how the innocent women are involved in sexual scenes after being seduced by Count Dracula 's…

It remains unknown how much exactly did Bram Stoker know about the traditional image of vampires when he was lingering in Whitby in the year 1890. It is certain, however, that it is there where an inspiration for Dracula “bit his neck” for the first time leaving a legacy of a horror-love novel capable of freezing readers’ blood until this day.…

Lucy Westerna and Mina Harker are the only two female characters Bram Stoker describes in detail in the novel Dracula. Lucy and Mina are two of the three characters that the reader sees becoming a vampire, and both characters are narrators. It is clear that these two play a very important role in the novel. Their actions have a huge effect on the way the novel unfolds. Lucy and Mina have many differences and similarities in representing the Victorian women. Lucy represents all of the evil traits of a woman of the time, while mina represents the “New Woman” of the era.…

Since the eighteen century, vampire stories have played a strong role of popularity in literature and cinematic environments. The continuous changes of vampires have taken the vampire legend from something feared to something desired. Between Dracula and Twilight it has been over a hundred years. These two novels are a great example of vampire’s evolution. However, both novels have elements of narrative device, they are both written from multiple perspectives, and both were turned into a film. Although Twilight and Dracula are pieces of literature that share a vampire story, there are three important differences that characterize each one.…

Stoker’s ability to illustrate the unfamiliar roles in which many in this novel take on proves to be helpful in understanding the relations between all the characters in the novel. In this essay I would like to argue that throughout Stoker’s novel there is a constant competition between good and evil. I believe Stoker set up Dracula like a competition between the band of men and Dracula. Who wins?…

Obsessive, unlawful, greedy, and unnatural sexual desire establish the core of lust, one of the seven deadly sins. Consuming in its very essence, it rots away at anything that was once considered pure or moral. Dashiell Hammett 's "Red Harvest" and Bram Stoker 's "Dracula" are stories that effectively demonstrate the disastrous and catastrophic effects on society by the unbridled greed, ambition and lust of its inhabitants. Most importantly, both the characters of Dracula and Dinah Brand use sexuality and lust as a launching pad for their blind greed. Their decisions to follow their ravenousness hunger for personal gain, either financially or substantially, throw their respective societies into a nightmarish world where terror and horror rules. The disastrous and sinful mix of ambition, greed and lust is quite apparent through both novels, as is the use of this mix on and by female characters that are supposed to be traditionally pure. These very factors prove to be too much for both Personville and Whitby, disintegrating the core that was once was seen as a functioning society.…
