1) Female Bricklayer
This was very inspiring to me because the daughter was so supportive of her mother’s occupation and found a deeper meaning for the hard work her mother put into her life. This showed me that it doesn’t matter what gender you are, you can do any job you want if you put your mind to it, work hard, and never give up.

Even though Lourdes had many obstacles to overcome, she kept working to reach her goal and was very successful. She had problems from the beginning and used resources to help speed up the process of her coming to the United States. When she was working towards her goal she was discouraged from becoming a teacher because of her accent. She took additional speech classes just so she could be a teacher. Her advice to her daughter is to “believe in yourself,” and “if others can do it, why can’t you.”
4) A Mother Who Flew High in the 1940s This story taught me that values are really important in career decisions. This mother went to work for the airlines and loved every minute of it. Eventually, she wanted to start a family, so she left her job to get married and have children. She could have stayed with the airlines, but then raising a family would have been very difficult. She followed what she wanted to do, and lived a very happy life because of her decisions.
5) Love in the Workplace This story taught me that if you work hard to reach your goals, you will be able to accomplish great things no matter how old you are. Going to college after so many years of not thinking it was for him, getting his degree, and becoming a teacher is truly inspirational. The woman in the story enjoys going to work every day and looking at the spot where they got married. This is the one part about work that makes her smile every
