Do You Think Chewing Gum Helps You Concentrate?
Cognitive Psychology Have you ever wondered if chewing gum helps you concentrate more? My project is about seeing if it actually does help you concentrate better. We are going to give half of the subjects a piece of gum and the other half will not have a piece of gum. We are going to give them a test and see which half does better. I thought this would be interesting to know about because everybody likes gum, and it’d be even better if it helps you do better with your work. This means they can better focus on their tests. The act of chewing also increases blood flow to the brain which improves memory. Hello, Grace! Since nicotine is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States, I have found that nicotine is a very addictive and poisonous drug. As I contemplated and reflected on your discussion post, I concur and comply with your point of view regarding nicotine. Like any other drug, nicotine has its pros and cons. Martin (2016) explains that nicotine is produced by plants to redirect predators and others use nicotine for a pesticide for this same reason. Arguably, I can see how nicotine can be beneficial, but it’s difficult for me to agree that it is healthy. It is interesting to note that another source found that nicotine can improve cognitive development. In fact, I can notate how small doses are nicotine could be harmless…

I really enjoyed this article because I've always been very interested in cognitive enhancement. Anything that can make humans think better, faster, or easier is a huge step forward. For example, if you text all day everyday you aren't paying much attention because it's the norm. However, if you're learning a new skill you constantly have to think about it because you're not used to it. Doing this can make you think and process information fast by strengthening your synapses. Thoughts are electrical impulses that travel from neuron to neuron through a synapse. It's basically just transmits information, so the stronger the synapse the easier the brain and can transmit thought. I find it no surprise that nicotine improves a person's focus. It is a mild stimulant which increases dopamine. This is the same way Adderall works in the brain to improve focus. The only thing I do not agree with is that food and supplements have little or nothing to do with cognitive enhancement. Nutrition is start of everything in the body. Smack, Smack, Smack! Those horrid sounds that everyone dreads hearing. Anywhere you go you can hear at least one person making that sound. Smack, Smack, Smack! The sounds drive people insane, so why make those sounds? During any test, you can hear the distracting sound that at least one student makes in the entire test. The people that rudely and loudly chew their gum everywhere they go. You can hear them feet away while they are on their phone and chewing their gum with that loud sound. Those people should like a cow chewing its cud. Smack, Smack, Smack! Those sounds could make any sane person go completely insane.…
