Curfews Keep Teens Out of Trouble Do curfews keep teenagers out of trouble? This topic has always been on the cover page of today's newspaper headlines and a hot topic that has been discussed by every family. What are curfews like? A curfew is a time frame given by an authority like a parent or the government to teenagers below 18 to be home before a certain period of time. So, ask yourself, do you think that by implementing curfews into a teenager’s life, he or she would keep out of trouble. Our group has discussed and came to an agreement that curfews really do help teenagers keep out of trouble. Firstly, curfews help teenagers to stay away from bad influences. Besides that, curfews set by parents are a way of showing that the parents care about the teenagers. Next, curfews help teenagers learn to manage what they want to do with the time that they have efficiently. According to Louise, L. (2011), teenagers are bound to meet many sorts of people once they set foot into elementary schools. Some might consider elementary school to just be a playground for teenagers but in fact these are stepping stones for them to start developing from kids to teenagers. As they continue to their high school, they will start to go through puberty. The males will start to develop by gaining weight and growing facial hair while the females will be more feminine and start to act more lady-like.
Louise, L. (2011) also acknowledges that teenagers will have the urge to fulfill their anxiety and excitement by going out with their friends and some will develop feelings for one another during their teenage years. Some of these people they hang out maybe be bad influences. They would stay up till late at night to have parties at different locations that are strictly for people aged 18 and above. Yet they still sneak into clubs and bars to have a good time doing illegal things such as

Over the years, the world has seen a rapidly increasing number of teen involvement in drunk and reckless driving cases, specifically from the time periods 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. A 12 a.m. curfew on weekends and a 10 p.m. curfew on weekdays would help to protect teens and others on the roads late at night from getting into troublesome or dangerous situations. In my town of Leesburg, Virginia, a 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. curfew is placed on anyone under the age of 18 on all days of the week. The curfew is used to minimize the amount of inexperienced teens on the road during hours where driving can be difficult due to things like fatigue and/or the influence of illegal substances. Many teens don't see the risks of driving under the influence of alcohol late at night or driving late at night at…

Curfews over the years have lowered teenage crime rates by 23 percent around the world. Some people believe that Curfews do not lower the crime rates in our generation of teens. “Studies in Tulsa, Oklahoma showed that arrests rose despite the curfew law.” That might be true, but that is only in one place. Curfew laws still lower the amount of arrests in teens. Greasers are believed to be hoodlums in their society without a curfew. “Greasers are almost like hoods; we steal things and drive old souped-up cars and hold up gas stations and have a gang fight every once in awhile.” If the Greasers and Socs had a curfew, maybe things that happened late at night wouldn’t have happened.…

In a journal, an author talks about situations in which children have been killed during late hours. What business does a child have doing in the streets after late at night? Some children do not realize or consider the danger there is in the streets. A criminal will especially take advantage of a child because they are easy targets. Although criminals will strike whenever they have an opportunity, if they see a child out on their own they will attack. Having a curfew will insure kids are at home during the late hours and prevent any kidnapping or any…

Within the United States there exists a law which protects teens nationwide known as the state curfew act. The state curfew act is a law that was put in place to stop teens from going out late at night and getting in trouble. The law makes it illegal for teens to be out past a set time. This law is highly debated upon by many teens and some adults as to whether it is needed or is just an unnecessary law that infringes upon the teenagers right to freedom. Of course the law does exist for a clear purpose which in most cases it fulfills and prevents many casualties and crimes. I have wrote this paper in order to hopefully shed some light on the validity of the law by sharing some statistics such as the crime rates passed certain times as well…

Most teenagers consider their driver’s license as their ticket to independence. With a driver’s license, minors are able to drive themselves around whether it’d be to school, work, or other activities. A driver’s license for a minor could also mean, tragic car accidents, night out at drinking parties with friends, vandalism, drug use, gang violence, and trespassing. The question we ask ourselves is, whether people under 18 be subjected to legal curfews or restricted driving privileges? Minors or those under the age of eighteen should be subjected to legal curfews and should have restrictions on their driving privileges.…

Sixty-three percent of crimes, counting sexual assault, happens at night. Teenagers have a thirty-three to eighty-four percent chance of being a victim of sex-trafficking. Setting curfews on teens is meaningless and a waste of money. Teens are looked at as the age group that causes the most trouble and society often targets them when it comes to matters for crime. People think setting curfews will solve the problem of teen violence, but all it does is patch it up and leaves the problem hanging. In the text, lines 23 to 25 reads, "In Pittsburg, Pa., the number of juveniles murdered in 1994 was 47% greater than the number murdered in 1980." This increase in juvenile murders shows that curfews, in fact, are not helping with teen crimes. Again in the text, lines 40 and 41 reads, "statistics show that most juvenile crimes occur between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m." This fact totally goes against the idea of teen curfews. According to the text, teen curfews are usually between 11 p.m. or midnight and dawn. If…

For every parent there is nothing worse than hearing the phone ring late at night while your teenager isn't home. There is a sense of panic that most of the time is just a false alarm from paternal or maternal instincts. However, a fraction of those parents have their fears actualized. This can be achieved through the implementation of curfew laws. Although teenagers may believe curfew laws will inhibit their freedoms, there will be greater safety because their will be more supervision during earlier hours of the night, less sleep deprivation among teenagers and other drivers, as well as greater visibility for young drivers and pedestrians. Young people are the most targeted groups for criminals in society. At night, criminals…

Curfews are a subject that is widely discussed on if they should or should not be enforced most of the people lean to enforce curfews in an effort to cut crimes that are happening late at night. Most parents would agree that teen curfew is effective in reducing the risk of teens getting into trouble. But I believe that teens shouldn’t have a curfew. I say this because not all teens are out in weird hours of the night getting into trouble so why punish all teens for others mistakes.…

To many teens and young adults, curfew laws have negatively affected their lives and their viewpoints of the criminal justice system. In the essay “Curfew Laws: Demonizing Teens,” written by Nora Gold, Gold illustrates why curfew laws are bad in the U.S. and all they do is punish the teens that do not need to be punished. The main points that Gold gives to help back up her theory that curfew laws are bad are that curfews on teens take away some of their civil rights, curfews don’t actually reduce the crimes committed by teens, politicians propose curfew laws so it seems like they are being tough on crime, and also that there are other ways that will help reduce the crime among teens. One of which being after school…

Earl Manning, my life-long mentor, says, "Teen curfews are quite possibly the best thing ever. Teens are evil, corrupt beings and a curfew is all the world needs to cage up teen crime." Though most of Earl's wise teachings are true and insightful, on this subject he is terribly mistaken. Teen curfews are not the right solution to the problem of juvenile crime because they enroach on the rights of teens and parents, are ineffective, and there are much better solutions.…

I personally believe that curfews will not prevent teenagers from getting into trouble. Even with a curfew teens will eventually find a way to do whatever they want. If that means skiving school, sneaking out or lying. Sneaking out would give teenagers that adrenaline rush which would make them feel powerful and unstoppable, so why wouldn’t they want to do it? Also, having a curfew just adds stress on a teen, because we will freak out about running late. Does curfew really keep teens out of trouble?…
