Literacy is the ability to use writing and reading in a positive way that allows for all students to construct meaning, from print, and to put into action in a social context. In a successful classroom there needs to be a willingness to use literacy, with cross-curricular reading and writing that allows students to construct meaning. I know personally that culturally diverse literature was not something that occurred in my elementary classrooms and it definitely has an impact on us in the future, and so I definitely see how it would have a negative impact on students of culturally diverse backgrounds. It could be difficult to get culturally diverse books, and how to make curriculum and lessons to reach everyone in the classroom, but it is possible with the right resources and creating positive relationships with the students and families of these
