The current distribution of income is a cost to our economy by way that we have those people who choose not to work and entirely live off what the government gives them by way of welfare checks and food stamps. We have a progressive tax system for a purpose and that is to make sure the government does not take an unreasonable amount of taxes from your paycheck. The more income you earn, the more taxes you pay, and vice versa.
I believe the federal government should step in more and influence the distribution of income by the implementation of new tax and social policies. But they should do this in a way that keeps in mind an overall goal to regain the trust of the people. In our day and age, most of society does not trust the government and every governmental decision often gives out a bad vibe within society. The government should encourage the wealthy to invest more and create businesses which would create jobs and by doing this, will slowly heal our breaking economy. There should also be a limit to the amount of time one can be dependent on government programs. You have to able to show that you really are trying to join the work force and provide for your own well being.
The uncertainty and risk of government influence on the current distribution of income is that these programs might not work and enhance the aid of those who take advantage of governmental programs. But if the government decides not to intervene, the gap between the rich and the poor might extend to an unreachable measure where we may never recover.
