Diplodocus is the longest and in fact the largest known to science terrestrial dinosaurs whose complete skeletons have ever been found. In appearance, it resembled a lizard brontosaurus, but Diplodocus differed from it by a thin S-shaped neck and a long tail with a thin shout end. The first remains of Diplodocus, in particular its tail and hind limb bones, were discovered in 1877 by Samuel Williston near the town of Canyon City, Colorado, USA. According to him, Otniel Charles Marsh described the kind of Diplodocus longus.
