Differences Involved In The Process Of Osmosis
Garfield wants the knowledge of the books to go to his brain. Basically, the high concentration (book knowledge) going to low concentration. (his brain) Diffusion is the process by which a substance moves, without energy, from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. It’s also the main method by which small molecules move across the cell membrane. Since molecules are always moving and bumping into each other, the more molecules are in an area, the more collisions there will be. These collisions cause molecules to push away from each other. So, over time, the molecules of a substance will continue to spread out. Eventually, they will be spread evenly throughout the area. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. Also, his skin isn’t semi permeable, which means that it doesn’t allow certain types of molecules to pass through but blocks others. (Note that a semipermeable membrane is not the same as a selectively permeable membrane. Semi-permeable membrane describes a membrane that allows some particles to pass through (by size), whereas the selectively permeable membrane "chooses" what passes through. (size is not a factor) Second, in order to get the knowledge from the book to his brain, you have to read, which requires energy so it’s not diffusion since diffusion doesn’t use energy, and there is no water, so it can’t be osmosis since there has to be a diffusion of

    Diffusion and Osmosis are two concepts that go hand in hand with each other. Diffusion is simply described as the movement of a substance from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration. In another words, the substance will move down its concentration gradient which is “the region along which the density of a chemical substance increases or decreases” (Campbell Biology pg. 132).
