My name is Julia Troxell and I live in Algood, TN. I have been a Tennessee State Trooper for the past five years. I serve the sixth district which includes Putnam county and fourteen surrounding counties. The county I primarily work in is Putnam on the midnight shift. The job is very stressful yet rewarding. From a very young age I always knew I wanted to be involved with law enforcement. I chose the highway patrol because in my eyes they are the elite. They are no better than any other law enforcement agency, however they are held to a higher standard in comparison with a city or county agency. Professionalism, integrity and pride are demanded of all troopers in the state of Tennessee. I am going to explain how I got to where I am and some of my duties and responsibilities on a daily basis.…

When we look at state this all includes state trooper, country sheriff and your local or city police officer. These officers are here to protect our borders from people crossing illegally and to help keep our community and cities safe from whatever danger…
There are so many different police agencies and levels here in the United States. Here are a few of the Federal policing agencies: Department of agriculture, commerce, Defense, FBI, and justice, but there are 15 Federal departments. The State level agencies consist of highway patrols, port authorities, state police, fish and wild life police which are only a few of the state levels agencies. At the local level agencies, there are campus, constables, transit police, and sheriff’s department, which also are just a small portion of the local level agencies.…
Police officers have a limited local jurisdiction, usually within the boundaries of a city or town. They look for public safety, while they cite and arrest people who are breaking the law within their jurisdiction. They also do a lot of public services like safety education classes.…
The State police have three types of sub-levels: State Trooper, County Sheriff, and City Police. The State Trooper has jurisdiction over the whole state but they usually patrol areas maintained by the state agencies. The County Sheriff handles arrest in their own jurisdiction, but some states extend this to other counties.…
On an average day, a state police officer will respond to calls that are both emergency and nonemergency, obtain warrants, prepare cases and testify in court, pursue and apprehend suspects, conduct traffic stops, and assist the general public.…
In 2012, the number of state and local police agencies were 17,985 throughout the United States. The U.S. government takes policing to a political level, where most ethical procedures do not matter much. It is a bit different with police departments, though each department may run some things differently, most follow a pattern and usually conform to other departments from other states. Some services the police provide are protection of public officials; respond to emergency…
The methods and legal limitations vary by the agency toward completing these goals. Public police attain more authority toward making arrests and detaining possible suspects, but they are under control by the government and the laws. The guards are powerless in certain situations without requesting the public police at the scene to assist with arrests, questioning, and detaining an individual, but the government and the laws do not limit private security as much as public police. The differences make the agencies useful and essential for most situations. The public police can concentrate on other aspects of public protection without spreading the agency thin to protect retail properties, private communities, and public special events because of the use of private security. The two agencies complement each other and possess frustrations. Individuals in both agencies work well, and the agencies can complete a wider range of goals when working together. Both agencies possess a love and hate…
Imagine you had to choose between becoming a police officer or a border patrol, but you couldn’t choose because both careers call you attention. Police officer because you get to help civilians and protect the community, and border patrol because you help protect the borders and the county near the border. Police officers are also known as police agents and have a couple of more names that are warranted law employee of a police force. The police officers are in charge…
State agencies as well have several roles. State police is in charge of securing state highways and other areas of their state. Sheriff’s and their deputies are responsible for patrolling an area’s state and federal routes, as well as unincorporated or unpoliced municipalities. My state, California has highway patrol’s that enforce state…
The United States government and the police must have a relationship because the laws and how the American criminal justice system is set up and ran. The rights of the people are established by the government and in most cases have to be carried out and enforced by local police. The local police vary from size throughout the United States. As the government set out to make new laws, it is the police who have to make sure that laws are being followed. The police also have a professional obligation to the public and the first component of the Criminal Justice system is the police, and different levels of policing focus on different levels of crime. The United States government has policing on the federal, state, and local level. A local law enforcement agency can run from a huge local police department to a small local police department depending on the number of people living in the community or jurisdiction of that police department. Next, would be policing on the state level, this would be your state troopers. The state police are mostly seen on the highways, but they have other duties that go beyond jus t regulating our highway. Last would be federal police agencies, federal agencies have the responsibility to enforce the laws that are only on the federal level, but unlike state and local police, federal agencies have nationwide jurisdiction. Overall the Government makes the laws for these different police agencies to enforce, the relationship between the government and police seems to be an up and down situation. The police system is not perfect and at times those imperfections in the system show because of this it makes it hard for policing around the United States. Throughout the years because of the corruption and wrong doings in some police agencies for the most part the government has to take a neutral stance in the way they follow up on police misconduct and wrong doing within…
By being visual to the community, the fourth responsibility of preserving the peace is achieved. This responsibility goes hand-in-hand with the third responsibility of being visual to the community. “All enforcement activities improve the peace of a community” (CJi Interactive, 2011). Police officers can cultivate a positive image and positive attitudes just by being visible to the public.…
The State Government sets the standard for what police can or cannot do. This varies from state to state. The most important role of state governments has been to require the licensing or certification of all sworn officers (Walker Katz, 2011).…
