Week One Goal Statement
My current health and fitness is at the peak. I am a professional cyclist, I train anywhere from 10-35 hours week doing a minimum of 150 mile every week. With doing that much training my nutrient intake is critical to how I preform in all of that training and racing. On a heavy training week I’m burning around 5000-7500 calories a day, so replacing that is critical and if its fast food and junk I will be sluggish and unable to preform at max effort.
Currently I don’t have any health or fitness concerns. Although in the future I will be interesting to see how I adapt to not training that much anymore but still having the desire to eat that much food.
A goal I do have for this year is to ride a total of 15,000 miles for the year. That is a huge undertaking with every week of training not being mileage heavy and only doing 150 miles a week, but with proper eating habits, looking after my body and health it will be possible.

Factors that assisted in weight maintenance • From the start of class I’ve had two race goals. The
Hotter’n Hell Hundred Road Race, and Texas State Road
Race. Both are 100 mile races and require a large amount of training. I had 5 weeks before HHH and another 4 weeks to State road race. During those weeks I averaged
350 to 450 miles a week in order to gain fitness. A long with the training I kept track of my calorie intake making sure I had enough verses limiting my calories like people do to lose weight.
• Another side goal was to try and lose weight but not focus on it, I was able to lose 4 pounds before HHH and I have sense lost another 4 pounds. This will help as the State road race is hilly.

Realistic nutrition and exercise plan
• Maintain weight
• Cut body fat down from 10% to 8%
• Cut sweets totally out of my diet
• Reach 15,000 total miles for the 2014 season • Set a new one day record for most miles in a day. Currently 130 miles.

The four nutritional or exercise goals that I have come up with is to exercise at least 30 minutes a day for five days a week. Also for nutrition I can add more vegetables and fruits to my diet. An example would be when going out to eat I could substitute vegetables for french-fries or fruits in place of pies. Another exercise goal would be to start using the pedometer that I bought several months ago while I was working. I can use it to set goals for myself by adding more steps in my daily routine throughout each day. Nutritional wise I can start by planning ahead by making my shopping list for meals and snacks for a week so this way I will now exactly what I am going for before I…

The goals I have set for myself should be easy to meet. First, I am going to eat less red meat in my diet. Part of that goal is to replace some of the red meat I would normally add to my diet with nuts and fish. I live in an area where fresh salmon and tuna are plentiful and affordable. I also have walnut and hazelnut trees close by, so adding these items to my diet should be simple.…

“Healthy People 2020 is committed to the vision of a society in which all people live long healthy lives” (Healthy People, 2012). Promoting wellness and fitness are important health goals for me and my family. I often make healthy resolution every year in January and that is to get physically fit, to be more active, to eat better, to lose weight and to manage stresses in work and family life. I do try to eat healthy foods and I do not smoke. I also learned how to manage my stress through meditation and relaxation. I do value physical activity and to exercise regularly but I do not have enough time to exercise. After a full time job at school I have to run to another part time job in a different location. Metabolic Diet Essay

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…

In order to improve my current diet, I need to reduce my caloric intake to the 1500-calorie diet recommended on USDA’s SuperTracker. The most efficient way to do this is to eat healthier meals at home rather than unhealthy, easy to procure fast food. In addition, I exceed my sodium intake with 2,016 mg on average, 516 mg over the recommended amount. Due to harmful effects of high sodium intakes on blood pressure, a prominent risk factor for cardiovascular and kidney diseases, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for Sodium at 2,300 mg. This indicates that I must lower my sodium intake as a precautionary measure (Higdon, Sodium (Chloride), 2001). Again, as mentioned above, the most proficient way to do this is by eliminating fast food out of my diet along with analyzing nutrition labels for high sodium content.…
