Detention Rooms: A Narrative Fiction
“Um...hello?” asked Flannery, walking into the detention room. She was surprised (and slightly unnerved) to see how normal it looked. “Hello!” A voice called from the desk in the corner. A girl with pale skin, magenta eyes, and purple hair tied back with a black, icy-looking hair clip. “Are you Hisakawa Flannery-san?” “Uh, yes.” said Flannery. “Hey, you look like-” “Hyakkihime from Ameonna-sensei’s class? That’s right.” said the girl. “I am also called Hyakkihime, and she is my sister’s niece. Just call me Hyakkihime-sensei.” “Okay…” said Flannery, fidgeting nervously. “So...are you the detention supervisor?” “That I am. Please come sit in the desk in front of the podium.” said Hyakkihime-sensei, floating to the podium herself. Flannery …show more content…
Flannery turned to look at it, and felt her stomach plunge (not really) when she saw big red letters counting down from three. 3...2...1...a red demon face glared up at Flannery from the Watch. “W-what’s this?!” yelped Flannery, terrified. “Prepare for the naughty kids’ worst nightmare-Oni Jikan!” Hyakkihime-sensei shouted as Flannery was teleported out of the classroom. The last thing Flannery heard before disappearing was the sound of very maniacal laughing coming from where the detention supervisor was floating.

Sorry to do this to you guys! Well anyway, I’ve got a few things to say now… First and foremost, the “romance” aspect of the story hasn’t really begun yet, but believe me, there’s definitely going to be some! Second, after Flannery’s experience in detention, I’m going to start a running gag. It’s not going to have a pattern-sometime entire chapters will contain the running gag, other times, I’ll skip a few chapters before the running gag starts running again. By that way, I received a question in the reviews-do I like doing artsy-craftsy stuff? The answer is yes! I draw things all the time but I’m not confident that they’re good enough to post online. See you all next

With her words “to the hard of hearing you shout, for the almost-blind you draw large and startling figures,” Flannery O’Connor explains her literary style (O’Connor). She feared without the bold approach of grim situations and ridiculous characters, her audience would miss her true messages which she felt vitally needed to be understood. She wrote during The Modern literary period and through common speech and ordinary settings, O’Connor presented comically unrealistic circumstances in hope of somehow portraying her concerns (1-2).…

Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

Placing juveniles in a detention facility is not always the best way to go. There are a number of alternatives that can be used instead of putting a juvenile in a facility. When deciding which type of program to place a juvenile in, the court officials must take into consideration the safety of the public. Many offenders can be effectively rehabilitated through community-based supervision while there are other serious offenders that may require confinement to protect others.…

The prison environment is defined as the atmosphere of aspects within a prison, including: inmates, guards, facilities, privileges, morale, etc. A prison environment is strict and isn’t happy. The main goal being punishment, the overall atmosphere will be low, and considering the criminals contained there, not pleasant. The environment affects institutional management and custody because the prisons needs are ever changing, so management and custody procedures must be. Institutional management is there to ensure the facility is run as well as possible. To do this, they must address the needs of the environment of the prison. Custody is also related because if gaps are seen in procedures, management must correct those to protect the integrity and safety of the institution and inmates. To improve the environment, it’s important to improve the morale of inmates. Accomplish this by giving inmates something to work towards, that they are passionate about. This could be education or a hobby. If they have something to take pride in morale will rise and prison environment will follow. Overcrowding also dampens prison environment and can be fixed by addressing which inmates deserve to be incarcerated at any point.…

    Confinement In Prisons

    • 1001 Words
    • 5 Pages

The United States, with only 5% of the world’s population, holds 25% of the world’s prison population. There are currently 2.23 million juveniles and adults incarcerated in American jails, prisons, detention centers, and the like (Wagner and Rabuy 2015). With record-high rates of incarceration, it is not surprising that there is a great deal of controversial debate around the subject, including the ways in which incarcerated individuals are treated within prisons. While inmates all face different challenges while being imprisoned, one fear they all share is the fear of solitary confinement. While it varies from prison to prison, solitary confinement is “the practice of isolating people in closed cells for 22-24 hours a day, virtually free of…

Solitary confinement is more of an everyday occurrence in the United States as opposed to many other European countries such as the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom places 0.1% of its inmates in confinement whereas the United States places 1.8% of its prison population into confinement (Idalsky). Solitary confinement is a more secure area within a prison. The concept of confinement originated in Philadelphia in 1829 and was later elaborated upon in 1934 when Alcatraz was opened in San Francisco Bay (Orso). Solitary confinement is known to be where all of the unstable, violent, prisoners are locked up, but research has shown that not everyone in confinement deserves…
