Detective Willams: A Fictional Narrative
"What is going on over there?" Jamey inquired of her husband as she peered out of the kitchen window over to the the neighbor's house. "I have no earthly idea," Braden, her husband, responded. "It looks as if they're fighting again," Jamey remarked. Suddenly, the sound of shattering could be heard. "Do you think we should do something?" Jamey asked her husband.
"No, I'm sure they'll work it out. I mean we did, didn't we?"
Jamey agreed. She still had nightmares of the "year of horror" as she often referred to it. The loud yelling of obscenities she could hear from the neighbor's house brought back the painful memories of that year. The way they had fought nonstop, even over the most trivial things. Unfortunately, her descent into her

In her quick stolen glance, she searched for Detective Willams. Stealing a second glance, she finally found him. He had stepped off of the scene to converse with a pair of brawny men. Willams appeared to hand something over. As this event unfolded, the conversation appeared to be becoming increasingly stressed. She almost ran back to find out what the group was saying but her ever oblivious husband finally noticed her lack of presence beside him and beckoned towards her. “Why’d you stop?Hurry up!” he called back to her. I guess it wasn’t any of my business anyways, she thought with resignation as she obliged. Catching up to him, she commented on the peculiar scene she witnessed. “I’m sure it was nothing of any concern to us,” he quickly retorted, speeding up his pace towards their front door. Jamey couldn’t resist spying on the scene from the kitchen window once Braden had retreated to their shared bedroom. When she looked though, Detective Willams had disappeared along with almost the entire police force. This discovery only increased her curiosity. She knew she had to go back and investigate the scene more thoroughly. She also knew though that Braden would never allow this. She decided to use his obliviousness to her advantage and wait until he went to sleep to sneak back over to the

While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

It all happened on a warm sunny saturday morning in “Where are you going. Where have you been’’ by Joyce Carry Oates. It started with an unfamiliar car bouncing along Connie's long drive way. When she first heard the car she rushed to the window excitedly, frantically fixing her hair. Making sure she looked good, seemed to be an insecure habit for Connie. She saw an uninvited boyish looking man who was situated in the car parked now in her driveway. There was a tension of unease about the boyish man, he acted if he was supposed to be at Connie's house, as if she has told him to come. She should have taken him being there uninvited more seriously, by locking the door or even calling the police. Connie was too caught up with herself to realize…

“Ugh!”, he grunts from how large the suitcase is. “Will you be able to carry that, Scottie?” she says, her face, worn from time, twists with concern for her son. “Of course”, he laughs. “Okay, if you’re sure.” She says as she opens the metal gate to the front yard. They slowly walk through the cracked pathway until they reach the steps to the porch. Beatrice opens the sturdy door with her keys. “Honey, I’m home!” Scottie yells into the empty living room. “Must you do that every time you come inside the house?” She says fondly. “Of course, I must.” He says as if she should already have known the answer. While they were talking, Alice and Jake, Scottie’s younger siblings, heard his announcement and excitedly ran out of their room and down the beige stairs. “Stop making all that racket!” she admonishes her children. “SCOTTIE!” they yell out enthusiastically. “You’re home!” Alice states, full of wonder that her big older brother is finally back where he belongs. “Well, it’s obvious that I’m home unless I’m an imposer who’s secretly an alien”, He jokes, winking at Alice. “I definitely didn’t miss your humor,” Jake lightheartedly says. “Oh, come on, I tell the best jokes”, Scottie says smiling. “Yeah right, in your dreams”, Jake jokingly teases. “Leave your brother alone for right now. He had a long trip and he’s probably exhausted.” Beatrice gently tells to her…

The excitement of the story takes off from there as all the lessons or experience is unraveled. Jack’s feelings for Lucy definitely have some issues. Jack walks in to his family’s house where this woman, who he has never met before, is sleeping on the couch. He is suspicious about this girl Lucy and is told she is his brother’s fiancée who he has never heard of. The fact that his only brother hasn’t announced his engagement is very suspicious to him. His initial perception of her “sneaking” out of the house has alarmed him and he assumes that her actions are “fishy”. He comes to her apartment to seek her out and try to obtain more information about this girl, Lucy, but his first encounter at her apartment building is with Joe Junior, who exaggerates and boldly lies in order to feel good or proud. When Jack asks him about Lucy he says that he is “dating” her. As our text on page 26 says, “Perceivers tend to make the pieces fit”, Jack thinks that this statement from Junior is correct because he is automatically “trying to make the pieces fit” into his suspicions or assumptions that he has already made about Lucy. Jack continues on to follow Lucy around and tailors his conversation to fit his perceptions. He asks questions trying to put the puzzle together and prove that she is a liar.…

“Who is the man that would risk his neck for his brother man?” Many have heard these lyrics for over 30 years from the theme song of a very well-known African American detective movie. The answer is Shaft, John Shaft to be exact. The 2000 version starring Samuel L. Jackson proved to be just as good as the first. Although, this Shaft happened to be the nephew of the original one, played by Richard Roundtree, Samuel L. Jackson did not disappoint. Shaft showed even more cleverness, wittiness and street smarts as he made it his quest to solve his latest case. John Shaft proves that he takes no mess and will go out of his way to bring justice to the ones who deserve it. Shaft had grown up in the inner city and learned the ins and outs of his town and it helped him succeed as a detective. Shaft does it all from handling local drug dealers who want to corrupt kids to arresting a racist male who killed another and almost got away with it. He’s well-known in his town and everybody knows he doesn’t take any mess from anybody.…

The detective agency has been around in the United States since 1850 thanks to Allan Pinkerton. Eleven years later, Zebulon Brockway created the first parole system. The world’s finger classification system was used in 1892, by Juan Vucetich while working for the Central Police Department in La Plata, Argentina. He first used it to identify a bloody fingerprint from a double homicide of children. Then in 1908, Lola G. Baldwin was hired as the first woman police officer. Also in 1908, Charles Bonaparte created the FBI predecessor, whom argued for a team of hand-picked “special agents.” In 1920, a non-profit, unbiased organization, called American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), was created to defend the Constitutional rights and liberties of all Americans. Three decades after…
