A sweet nurturing elderly woman who gives words of wisdom whom would do anything for her kin? “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor describes a lonely grandmother living with her son who would, not so much, do anything for her family. The grandmother goes on vacation with her son and his family, because she does not want to miss out on anything yet finds herself in a predicament when taking a turn off the vacation route running into the Misfit, an escaped convict from the Federal pen. The way that the grandmother only turns to religion in a time of need is a common theme among religious peoples. This is often discouraged by religious figures, because they believe that God should be in every part of your life and that He is not just a tool to get you out of situations you would rather not be in. This perspective is no different for Flannery O’Connor, in the end of the story, after the death of the grandmother, The Misfit said ”She would have been a good woman, . . . if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life” (133). In her interaction with The Misfit, the grandmother openly has faith in God, Jesus, and their forgiveness, but she only does this when her life is on the line. When The Misfit speaks of her being “a good woman,” he is referring to her being a good Christian, and he then he says that the only way that could have happened would have been if her life was constantly under threat as it was when she showed “good” Christian values to him.…

The book also aims to provide an account on what works or not, when interacting with people; what to expect from them and what not to expect. Summarily, the second goal which Littauer attempts to attain is to inform the reader on how to manage expectations. Being familiar with different temperaments reduces misunderstandings which often take place when the attitude of an individual overwhelms us. The ability to understand our tendencies creates room for both acceptance and positive adjustment.…

A person may be good looking. He impresses others by his personality. Others might find him handsome. But once they get to know him, they may find many faults in his character and their first impression about him gets tarnished. They may even start to hate him because of the flaws in his character. His personality which impressed others at first cannot influence them anymore. It turns into scorn and hatred in due course. On the other hand we may consider the case of an ugly person. If his character happens to be attractive and good, others will like him. They will try to mingle with him more and more. Their attitude will in due course turn to one of love, affection and even adoration. This proves that a person’s attraction does not depend on his external appearance.
