Derrick Rose Research Paper
On May, 8, 2015 I sat in front of a glowing T.V. watching the Cleveland Cavaliers play Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls. The clock was down to three seconds and the Bulls had the ball on the left sideline. The scoreboard read 96-96 as Derrick Rose caught the ball at the top of the key. Derrick released the ball with a flick of his wrist and sent it towards the hoop. The ball rotated backboard was illuminated by a bright cherry colored light as the time expired on the clock. The basketball rotated through the air in a paced that seemed to be slow motion. The ball hit the glass and fell into the net softly. Derrick’s teammates rushed the court to celebrate with an excited look on their face, but Derrick had a look on his face that didn’t show …show more content…
He grew up in an a tan, old, rotting house in a crime filled area of Chicago. Derrick grew up with three older brothers who were all talented basketball, he admired them, which led to his love for basketball. Along with teaching their brother the game of basketball, Derrick’s brothers were also told by their mom to keep Derrick alive and out of the crime scene in Chicago. When he was old enough Derrick attended a basketball academy, Simeon, where he lead an extremely successful high school career. After graduating he attended the University of Memphis, before entering the NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls won the 2008 draft lottery and gained the number one overall draft pick. On the night of the draft Derrick waited to hear his name called while sitting next to his mom. On the stage the NBA commissioner David Stern announced that the Chicago Bulls picked Derrick Rose. He proudly stood up and placed a bright red Bulls hat on his head and then made his way to his mom to give her a hug, as a way of thanking her for raising him in such a hard situation and helping him make it out of the ghetto of Chicago. He then turned, marched up to the stage and held up a Bulls jersey with his name on it, it was a sign that he had overcome the adversity of growing up in Chicago, and became …show more content…
Following Michael Jordans footsteps again, Rose became the first NBA all-star on the Bulls since Jordan was named an all-star in 1998. Rose’s third season could be considered his most successful, one of his best games was on January 17 2011. I remember sitting upstairs at my house, wearing my cobalt blue Adidas DRose 2.5s, watching the Bulls play the Grizzlies. The whole game Derrick seemed to be controlling the court, he flew up and down the light colored hardwood finding many creative ways to put the little orange ball in the little orange hoop. Derrick finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his first triple double. I was amazed by his performance and began to watch as many Bull’s games as I could, just to see him play. After more great performances Rose lead his Bulls team to a 62-20 record and Derrick won the NBA’s most valuable player award. At age 22 Derrick Rose was the youngest person to ever be named the MVP of the league, breaking a 47 year old record. When he won the MVP he inspired me by the way he overcame a hard situation to become one of the greatest athletes in the NBA and he also made me believe that if I worked hard like he did I could accomplish my

My brother Cam “thinks from the year of 2010-2011 that Derrick Rose is better because of the way he has pushed his team to 60 wins or more. Last season the Chicago Bulls was the number one seed in the NBA and following behind the Oklahoma Thunder in the second seed, because of Derrick Rose they were the number one seed in the Eastern Conference for two years and because of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden the Thunder was name the Western Conference number one seed.” This here shows you that Derrick Rose got all the credit while Russell Westbrook only get about twenty-five percent credit. “Derrick Rose is more clutch, because the ball is always in his hand when it comes down to winning a game but Westbrook on the other hand is the second option when it comes down to winning a game” Cam said, I told him that’s only because he have the scoring champ Kevin Durant which coach will always have the ball in Kevin Durant hands to make a play. “Derrick Rose has the ability to take over the game, by him being able to assist the ball he had to create more because of the lack of talent to take over games,” but every team has that guy who takes over the game and Derrick Rose is that guy for the Bulls but for Thunder Kevin Durant is the guy who takes over games and Westbrook steps up when he have to.…

Hello, I am Lebrons’ niece Tamela Raeburn (Gass). Daughter of Lawrence Milton Gass who is the older brother of LeBron. I would like to take a moment and take us all back to the early 1980’s. One of my favorite memories that I have of my Uncle LeBron is when I would spend afternoons at their house and work outside in the yard. I would help him cut the grass. We would go for walks around the perimeter of the backyard. After a hot day we would go inside while waiting for dinner and indulge in a refreshing RC cola. Yes, this was my first experience with the delicious taste of the RC. After dinner, waiting on Mom or Dad to pick me up I would hang out in the living room where I remember an aquarium in the living room and I remember Uncle LeBron telling…
