Deore's Room-Personal Narrative
Deore walks up the stairs of the basement, gently tapping on each step so no sudden noises can be heard. Hunter looks, slightly scared that the old man could lose his life if he goes up and checks, fear overwhelms him as he continues to look, praying in his mind for the man's safety. Yerina and her mother stay together in a non-spacial seat, tightly held upon the seat with Yerina dazing and her mother uneasy. Their mother gets up and stands near the stairs, waiting for him to return.

"We're going up" she says.

She sighs and glances at the stairs "What if doesn't come back, huh? Then what's the

With the barrel of her musket propped firmly on the limb of a tree, Charity took steady aim at the deer. The medium-sized buck was grazing at the edge of a thicket of wax myrtles, near where she saw the deer tracks the day before. John and Uriah were squatting in the bushes behind her. She had brought them along to help with the bleeding out of the deer, should she kill one, and to help carry it back to camp. They could then dress it out and help her prepare the meat for making jerky and so forth. She also hoped to can some of the meat so that it would last a lot longer. She was glad that Nancy had shown her how and taught her how to preserve food in glass jars- it was much better than having to dry it all into tough leather strips… Taking careful aim, Charity squeezed the trigger, while saying a quick prayer that the bullet would hit its mark. She was worried that she wasn't close enough to the deer, but if she had tried to get any closer, it would have seen her and ran off into the woods.…

Comparing the novel The Haunting of Hill House and the movie Poltergeist, there are many common factors they share. Both have a female character as a protagonist and a spirit as an antagonist. The two literatures, in print and film, also have the heart of the house revolving around a child's setting. There are still more similarities between both the book and movie, as there are dissimilar. The Haunting of Hill House is taking place in a setting where all of the characters are adult, as supposed to Poltergeist where the ages range from 5 to 60.…

Cast Your Fate to the Wind As a junior in high school, I sometimes have difficulty comprehending the texts I get assigned from various classes. Although my homework load may not be overwhelming, the spectrum of subjects interact with each other instead of staying in their own place. As my daily life entangles itself, my train of thought crosses dimensions rather than just a railroad. I think David could agree with this. I read his thoughts as dense, repetitive, and scrambled.…

I lay patiently on the cracked leather chaise longue. The modest room was a fading cream colour, books line the wall near my feet in an ornate shelf, a small desk and chair sit by the wall opposite me next to the iron door, there is a single swinging light in the middle of the room which casts a golden glow over everything and a painting of a sailing ship hangs above me.…

Throughout my life, I have faced a number of crucibles but one, in particular, is more prominent than the rest. About five years ago, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, a traumatic experience that affected my entire family. Each member of my immediate family chose to deal with the news in different ways, however, I am the only one that elected to live in denial. Sadly, the only way I knew how to cope with such devastating news was to continue living my life as if nothing was happening. Denial is simply unsustainable as you cannot escape the memories that the crucible has formed. Nevertheless, years after my mom was originally diagnosed I began to appreciate the experience for what it was rather than shy away from it; developing hardiness.…

Walking down the gym hallway, I could hear the clanking of metal plates emanating from the weight room. It was just past 6:30 in the morning, on a Monday in December. I had made this walk many times previously, heading to my gym classes, but this time was different. I was still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes when I reached the locker room. Tentatively throwing my stuff into my locker, I wasn’t prepared for the world I was about to step into. The light shined bright into my eyes as for the first time in my life I stepped into the weight room. Right away I was immersed into the smell of the weight room. The acrid smell of rust developing on the steel plates combined with stale body odor makes for a stench you never forget. Now that I was in the weight room, I could hear the music playing from the speakers, as well as the grunting of exertion. I was taken aback by the sight of the strange metal equipment, knowing nothing about what I was supposed to do.…
