Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles, were first popularized by the U.S. military. The first anyone ever heard of drones was watching on the news that one of them was the last thing some terrorist ever saw or heard as a missile launched from a drone found its target. In some cases it is simply a matter of getting through the government, regulatory hurdles to enable these applications to be fully realized, and this takes us to the first big potential type of drone for civilian use.

A drone could get to lost hikers in the Alps far quicker than a Saint Bernard with his mini barrel of whiskey around his neck. It is easy to see how life guards could use drones to fly a life preserver out to a drowning person just off the beach and there is a company that actually has a video on YouTube advertising a drone that has a built-in defibrillator. It flies out to the site of a heart attack victim far more quickly than an ambulance could get through traffic, and the person who called the ambulance simply puts the drone on the person's chest, and the built in defibrillator does the …show more content…

When we're using drones, we're putting a meaningless drone's life at risk rather than a soldier's. Drones are just helpful technology that have no psychology connections to the world. Meanwhile, soldiers are humans with bonds to friends and family. A soldier dying and losing his connection to the world would have much more of an impact than a technological tool. If a drone were to get shot while entering a country to spy, we would just find a new drone. But if a soldier were to do the same, there would be a massive impact to the people the soldier had interacted with. Meaning drones are irrelevant to the…
