Definition Essay: What Does It Means To Be A Hero
A hero doesn’t have to fly or be super rich to be a hero. A hero can be any normal and everyday person you see walking down the street. When they are faced with a tough challenge they are thinking of others instead of themselves, putting themselves in possible danger, and not being dishonorable but noble and humble. Heroes are people who are passionate towards others in need more than themselves. As shown in “The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” by Frederick Douglass he speaks out in front of thousands of people for his brethren back in slavery even when it can mean him getting recaptured. In the heat of the moment a hero make split seconds decisions based on how they can help others. Also, Nelson Mandela was put to the ultimate challenge, being in thrown in jail and mistreated however he never gave up and rose up to be the president of South Africa. A hero should be someone that others can look up to and admire. A person should be judged based on their actions not their physical appearance. A person doesn’t have to be some big, muscled, handsome dude, as portrayed in most movies, to be a hero. As seen in the boat rescue video the boatmen were not all that attractive, some were even missing some teeth yet that didn’t stop them from coming and doing what’s right which was helping evacuate the island of Manhattan. Being a hero is no easy task. It takes many characteristics to be a hero and those characteristics tend to be hard to find among the hearts of humans. However, heroes are essential for the human race because without heroes no one would step up to a challenge and nothing would get done but there are always heroes among us. They will step up when the time is right even if they don't become famous by doing it because a true hero doesn’t do it for the fame he does it for the good of
