Definition Essay On What Is A Hero
What is a hero? When confronted with this question, many people would answer with “Superman” or “Batman”. A hero isn’t always someone who wears a cape. A hero is someone who can believe in themselves; they are both selfless and courageous to help the ones in need. Even though it is not their responsibility, a hero will save the day because they care about the task at hand.

When a hero has come upon a frightening situation, they stay brave and courageous. Even when soldiers are jumping out of an airplane to fight a war where many of their friends have died. The soldiers know they could die as well, and despite knowing that they are jumping to almost certain death, they still fight because they know that they are fighting to save their loved

A great poet once said “We grew up cheering for the underdog because we see ourselves in them” (Shane Koyczan To This Day). When you think of a hero what do you think of ? Is it a guy in a cape, or a mom who works three jobs to support her struggling family? When you read that comic book where hero starts as a regular person. Who is just like everyone that no one believes. Everyone was once an underdog even that hero. You kept your faith in someone or something no one else did. And by the end of that comic series that hero did not gain money or get a reward, they paid the overall price.…

“Great heroes need great sorrows and burdens, or half their greatness goes unnoticed. It’s all part of the fairytale.” -Peter S. Beagle, The Last Unicorn. Heroes can be found in normal, everyday people; however, they go unnoticed because they did not have to overcome a great calamity to perform an action. More well known heroes have all overcome the worst of situations imaginable. For example, Ms. Riley from October Sky had fought Hodgkin’s Disease while helping Homer and the Rocket Boys achieve their dream. Rainsford from The Most Dangerous Game fought to the death in a game he did not believe in or wanted to participate in. Josh Sundquist became an award winning author and a Paralympian after defeating cancer and having his leg amputated at age nine. A hero is one who is selfless, overcomes adversity, and inspires others.…

What is a hero? In the dictionary, it is defined a hero as a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. However, for me, heroes are not those who have special abilities like flying through the sky, shooting lasers out of their eyes, or controlling other people’s minds, but just normal people who solve problems and save the people from the risk in today’s society. Actually, in our society, a hero is a normal person as average as friends, family or strangers that see a problem and take it upon themselves to fix it. Heroes have existed for years, but they have slightly different characteristics depending on the age. Usually the heroes of the past, especially in Korea, won the…

One important quality of heroism is stepping out from their comfort zone to help others in need, as they put aside their own demands. Often times a hero has a choice whether to go and help others or focus on themselves and pay attention to their only needs, but the fact that they put down their focus on themselves to help another shows how a true hero can be distinguished from amongst the crowd. For instance, an example of this quality can be found in the story Love Triumphs: 6 Year Old Becomes a Hero to Band of Toddlers, Rescuers by Ellen Barry. In this story, a little 6 year old boy named Deamonte Love takes on the responsibility of taking care of several other children, including his baby brother and cousins when they all were separated from their parents due to Hurricane Katrina. Deamonte “promised he’d take care of his brother” after seeing “his mother cry when he was loaded onto the helicopter” along with the other children to be taken to safety(SB 20). Even if Deamonte was scared, he took the lead role in directing and watching over the children, putting his focus only on the children,…

The definition of a hero is a relatively simple one; a hero is someone who positively impacts others through their actions and accomplishments. While we all have different views on who exactly we see as a hero, there are certain individuals, such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln, who have undeniably changed the world and fit this definition. I have found that many of the individuals who society, and I personally, view as great heroes, share a certain set of traits that almost definitely had a large part in their accomplishments. This is why I believe that bravery, selflessness, and determination are three vital traits when it comes to defining what it means to be a hero.…

Everyone in the world has a different opinion about what a hero is. They come in many shapes, sizes, have different characteristics, values, and beliefs. For me, a hero is someone who is willing to put a hundred percent effort into protecting you from pain. They will stop at nothing to provide you with the security of safety; and will share with you the knowledge required for survival. A hero doesn’t have to have impeccable character, high importance in society, or have a classic sandwich named after them in the local pub. A hero just needs to be someone who cares for your happiness and loves you for being yourself. My mother is my hero.…
