Definition Essay Beauty
According to Dictinary.com beautiful is “having beauty; possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind.” Beautiful means something different to everyone because the interpretation of the word is open to everyone. It can range in meaning from loving the way one looks and are, helping others, and whatever it is one enjoys.

Beauty is about being happy with the way one looks physically and others no matter how society judges oneself and others. Difference is what makes us all unique and not boring since we are all different. Hence we can only admire it therefore the whole situation being beautiful. With only one definition of beauty through physical or any other means created by society will tear apart those who don’t fit. This will in turn make them work hard to fit in with definition of beauty society as then it probably makes us all the same thus this is not beautiful. Diversity is not a damaging a factor of society but a positive aspect since nothing is same creating the cause to enjoy the beauty of each other. For example, Dhrubo Mondal is quite short and skinny compared to other men embraces his body type as it is healthy and is okay with his looks as it doesn’t matter to him.

The common physical beauty is what Elaine Scarry called “a symmetry of everyone’s relation to one another” in her book called On Beauty and Being Just (1999). This means that beautiful subjects or objects are evenly proportioned and ideal in all their forms. In other words, if symmetry is perfection, then beauty is perfection too. At the same time, as absolute symmetry does not exist- beauty is a divine feature of “chosen”. Meanwhile, I have my own interpretation of physical beauty. This is the idea of beauty that is not just a physical appearance of a person or object. This is the universal “beauty” I was talking about in the introduction of the paper. In my opinion, physical beauty that relates to the beauty of objects or subjects…

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines beauty as, “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.” After watching the many different video clips and also looking at this dictionary definition, I would have to say I agree closer more with the dictionary definition. Looking back on the different video clips, I think the one that stood out most to me was the film clip of the movie Summer Magic. After the clip was over, I caught myself being very unpleased with the message. I couldn’t believe that this movie was trying to tell girls that if…

What is beauty? Beauty, by definition, is, “the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit” (Merriam-Webster). Throughout her life, Lucy Grealy struggles with her own definition of beauty. To her, beauty equals happiness. As a cancer patient, she underwent many surgeries which left her with a disfigured face. Since she did not think she was beautiful, she was not happy, or rather, she would not allow herself to be happy. “I didn’t deserve it, and thus I shouldn’t want it. She blames all of her unhappiness and misfortune on the way her face looks, when in reality, she is causing herself to be unhappy by dwelling on the negative aspects of her life. She says,…

Everyone has their own opinions on what beauty consists of. It is in cliché expression “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” This means beauty can come from within a person’s soul or from the outside of looking at woman’s body. As it just happened, saying the word “beauty” on most occasions comes hand in hand with the word woman. In the story “A Woman’s Beauty: Put – Down or Power Source” by Susan Sontag. Sontag states; “To be called beautiful is thought to name something essential to women’s character and concerns. (In contrast to men whose essence is to be strong or effective, or competent.)” (Sontag.488.1) The word beautiful may not seem synonymous with men in 2015 but handsome is, as the word “handsome” feels more masculine.…

When you look in the mirror, do you see “beautiful”? Did you know that there’s a kind of beauty that isn’t tangible? Beauty is more than one might think; it is more rare. Those who have seen it know it to be something that cannot be captured by a photograph, it must be told by a story. If it has not been clear yet, beauty is not by any means physical aesthetics, but rather it is the actions that make-up an appealing disposition. Through the centuries, so many have wrongly credited beauty to be a person’s looks. The inevitable problem with that kind of beauty is the ever changing idea of what it is, and how it fails to express true beauty.…

In our book, they talk about the four points of The “Beauty” Ideal. The first point is that female beauty is changeable. They say that what is considered beautiful in one society is different from standards in others (Shaw and Lee 220). For example women’s scars, face tattoo, large ear lobes and even big women are consider sexy in other cultures but in America that would be looked down on because we strive for perfection. The second point concerning beauty is that such ideals reflect various relations of power in society (Shaw and Lee 220). This is a perfect example of our culture. Most people will look to actresses and actors…

Many people have heard of the old saying that “beauty comes from within.” Although beauty is difficult to define due to differential views, the majority of people may agree that it is a person’s personality that makes them beautiful. According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, beauty is“the quality of being physically attractive.” Although this definition is somewhat true, it is not all that defines the term. Due to a new uprising in pop culture, beauty is now defined only by the attractive, physical traits a person has. Also, this generation attempts to sell beauty as a vapid and superficial pursuit that exists solely to sell products and wag tongues. Beauty is actually precisely identified, purposeful, and has…
