Debut Albums and Light Jacket
The day of December 1, 2000 is a day I will never forget. It was a Friday. I was involved in a car accident that changed my view on life. The accident was the scariest experience I had ever had in my life. The day had started out too good to end the same. It was something about the day that didn’t sit right in my stomach.

The day started out good, everyone woke up on the right side of the bed. Our daily routine wasn’t hectic like usual, there was usually an argument over the shower, comb, brush or something. The weather was even nice, not too cold but just cool enough for a light jacket. We all had a good day at school. But through all of that I had a bad feeling in my stomach and was wondering why it wouldn’t go away. We all continued our afternoon like a usual Friday, try to get out of the house and have fun. My younger sister and brother had already had plans to go roller skating, they just needed permission. I had usually let my oldest cousin make the plans for our weekend, but that day I wanted to stay home because the bad feeling wouldn’t go away.

As the afternoon turned into the evening my sister and brother caught a ride to the skating rink. I stayed at home taking my hair down in the bathroom mirror and picturing the next style I was going to do when my cousin had arrived. She entered the bathroom and asked me if I’d wanted to ride to Beggs with her to pick up a friend and her children. I told her just to come pick me up when she had gotten back. She begged me to go; I kept giving her excuses on why I didn’t want to ride. She finally talked me into saying yes, I sent her to my mom to get permission for me to go. My mom had come to us and said that we had to pick the kids up by 9 and bring them home then she told us we better be where we said we were going. My cousin replied “we will, let’s go Steph.” It was something about that conversation that upset my stomach.

My mom leaned down and kissed my cheek, she told me to have a good day and reassured me we would get ice cream together after school. As my mom started to walk away my tantrum began. I could not fathom being away from my mom for an entire day! Tears began stinging my eyes as my mom’s figure faded into the distance. My classmates’ figures began to blur as tears spewed down my face and into my open, screaming mouth. The taste of salt from my tears only fueled the fire that began burning inside of me and intensified my…

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

Sideways and hanging in the air with only my seat belt holding me tight, blood was dripping from my nose and I had no idea what was going on around me. All I knew was that this Christmas, stuck in the middle of Utah, was going to change all those in the future for myself and my family. Sadly, great-grandma in St. George was not going to get a visit from me, my mom, Karen, Craig, Cameron, and Ross, my older brothers, and Jessica my older sister. My dad, Gary, was not on the trip with us because work became busy. The year 2004 brought a permanent change into the minds and physical lives of all those I hold dear.…

We had to say our last goodbye to our little house we had lived in our whole lives. When we were leaving, my family and relatives were at the house saying their goodbyes and giving hugs. “Do we really have to leave everyone and move, mom?” I asked. “Your dad and I have agreed that it will be a good move for the family, now stop complaining about it.” she told me. The only thing I wanted to do that day was stay in our old house and cry because I didn’t want to leave my family at all, I was really dreading moving to Florida. When we headed off on the roads I was still upset about the move, but my parents kept telling me it will be okay but that didn’t help me feel any…

December 31st was ending soon and by this time I was warming up to everything. I tried some of the delicious authentic Mexican cooking, met a few more people and was talking myself into learning how to dance to such different music than what I was used to. I guess you could say I was having a great time. Midnight was right around the corner, the band stopped performing and began the countdown. 10, 9,…

Today they seem sadder than usual, I can’t do anything to cheer them up; they keep hugging me and crying, it make me feel like I can’t do anything for them anymore. When I was younger I could cheer them up in a second, but now I can barely run by there side. This really limits what we can do together today, no parks, runs , or frisbee throwing of any sorts. Even with the medicine they have been giving me doesn’t work anymore. I hope today will get better for all members of my family. I think it will definitely get better now that we are going for a car ride; they still look so sad, this makes me feel anxious, where are we going? They stop the car and carry me in a building I have never been in before. I see more people they are in white, and look scary to me; but it’s fine, if my family is okay I will be okay. The lady shows us into a room where the put me on a table, my family stays and pets me and tells me that they love me; I love them too and I show it the way I always have. They are leaving, why? The scary lady closes the door, goes up to the counter and gets…

The happy child lifted few feet off the ground by the supporting arms of his parents. Madness started to take over. Tears dropped and words of scorned yelled in the privacy of our house. Desperate to find answers yet troubled to find the right words. The battle for air behind my trapped voice. Selfish reasons turned into rebellious acts, hiding my desperation and fear. What was I thinking? I caused emotional turmoil for us all. My questions continued until seventh grade. A trip back to Oklahoma for the first time in seven years. It's been nine years since I laid eyes on my mother. Oh, how much she has changed. Her energetic and youthful personality has become full of stress and the desire to gather her life together. Five years since I've seen grandfather. I will never forget his face full of tears and his arms shaking as they tightly wrap around my body. The grandfather who was once strong enough to carry me is now weak to the legs. A skinny silver cane supports his weight as he wobbled over. Two faces that I have not seen before are now to be called as my half-sisters. It was a trip of new bonds that shall be created and learning the truth behind the…

As the days slowly passed by, same things were repeated. I longed for them to go but Marcy, one of my cousins, said "We're staying for atleast two weeks more. Won't that be fun, Mia?" "Yeah, right" I felt like the world was spinning with me. Finally, when the two weeks were up, my mother called my aunt and made the arrangements for my cousin's departure. As I started thinking about how he wasn’t really dead, the more idea’s came to me. I was going to run away with him, marry him, and have his kids. As my sister comes out of the bedroom, I help her down the stairs, and as we start heading down, Brently opened the door. In shock, I pushed Louise down the stairs. As she fell down the stairs, she hit the last step head first, cracked her head open, and died. As we figured out she was dead, I jumped up in joy, because now Brently is a free man and we can be together. As I start telling him about my idea’s, he runs upstairs, packs some things, and…

Next morning I woke up with large bruises all over on my body. As a result of yesterdays happening I was stiff and sore, and my body was aching. I went to my room and got dressed, then my mum came in and told me: “Melissa, what happened yesterday, you must not tell anyone about it!”. Her eyes were filled with despair and frustration. She looked exhausted and beaten up. I felt so sorry for her. “But”, I started, mum interrupted me “There is no but. I promise, your dad loves you, and he loves me as well. There’s nothing to do with it, just accept it. We…
