Should students be allowed to leave school during lunch time?

Students should be allowed to leave the premises during school hours. If students are in a safe town and have minor limitations on where they go, then most would enjoy the experience without being in danger. Of course, there would be a time set by the school in which students must return to the premises. I also think that only students of year 10 or above should be allowed out (with their parents' permission). This would give them freedom and responsibility, which could be helpful as they transcend to adulthood. I think students should be able to leave campus for lunch because students are still humans and have a right to privacy therefore they should be able to do things without too many restrictions during their only free time at high school. For some students high school is very important to them because it’s their chance to start experiencing new things and as humans we are all unique with different ways of seeing and doing things.

As teenagers get older and learn more about life we start to mature and we need chances to show this maturity even if its as simple as letting us go out of school during breaks. I believe that we need to make some choices for ourselves so we can be ready for adult hood when it comes. If we are limited to one place we will never learn anything. I can also state the fact that every student wants to be able to leave school grounds during lunch. I have been to schools where we have had the opportunity to go out during the breaks and now that I spend my breaks inside of school is a really big difference. I feel like I have less freedom and its not right. I believe we should make some choices for ourselves and learn how to make right decisions. I understand that what we do outside of school in uniform reflects on what people think about the school but we have shown that we have behaved inside of school during lunch times so why cant we outside of school. If we show people that we are well behaved it will help the schools reputation and therefore making the school more popular. Some parents may not agree with this maybe for safety reasons but they should discipline there own child on what he or she can do and cant do and tell them to stay inside of school.

As a student myself, I believe children should be allowed to leave school grounds for lunch with the authorization of our legal guardian. Basically, in the beginning of the school year the school should give out authorization slips saying "they give permission for their child to leave the school for lunch and from example 12:00 to 1:15 PM. If your child fails to follow the rules then heavy punishment will be given." The students already would be in high school or middle school so this is the part of there lives where they develop responsibility. Now the schools have the opportunity to give the students a lesson that doesn't require math or science. Just common sense, responsibility and trust. What is a school without one ? If a child misbehaves then simply revoke their privilege. A bad apple shouldn't ruin the bunch. This is a privilege not a right. Besides, a majority of students walk to/from school anyways. If a parent doesn't want there child to leave the school grounds they don't have to sign for authorization and then they cannot go unless they are eighteen years old or up then the decision lies in there hands. Remember, safety is essential but so is trust. If we continue thinking about the negative, how will you move on as a productive school if your worried about all these things. That is why I believe students should deserve to leave school grounds for lunch.

I believe that high schools should have open lunches. Students should be able to leave the school grounds and go to a fast food restaurant, or, if they choose should at least be able to go outside and eat. Students need to have a small break from school during the day, even if they are outside, they still can take their minds off of school work for a while. Students need to have fresh air and adequate sunlight. Fresh air and sunlight is a proven fact to help students in their studies and it also helps the students concentrate more. I understand that the school staff would not like the fact that the students would be able to leave campus without supervision. Are not the students in high school? Should we not have the responsibility to be able…

My cooperating teacher does keep students in for lunch and recess, usually every day. For homework, she has students record in their agenda what they need to do for the night, week, or weekend. When students return the next day, the teacher checks to see if they are ready to turn in any homework that is due. If students are missing homework, she gives them a one day grace period. If a student still has not turned in homework after this one day grace period, the student is to stay in for lunch and lunch recess. She does not allow them to finish their homework during this time. Another reason she keeps students in for lunch and lunch recess, is if students have not finished classwork.…

“So from eating out, we can also learn how to make wise choices.” This would make students prepared for college by enabling them to leave campus and eat what they want. This independence would get kids ready to face the real world. “It provides a semi-sheltered climate to allow students to grow and become responsible.” This would give teens the privilege of not being watched every second of the day. If students disobeyed the rules of when they should be back, they could take away the privilege or give punishment. Throughout high school students don’t have very many opportunities to show how independent they are any letting them leave for lunch would be a perfect way for teens to show teachers they can be trusted and can survive in the real world.I know a lot of high school students who are very shy and keep to themselves. With the ability to leave school during lunch, kids would become more outgoing because there would be many more chances for them to socialize and interact with the real world. “If students have the privilege of off-campus lunch, they will gain more responsibility and more experience on how the real world works.” All kids have a big part in the future of our job…

According to Change.org, 9 out of 10 students say they would eat something else besides lunch food if they had a choice. A variety of food choices outside of school will benefit a student's health. Likewise, teens need the option to go out and take a break from their 8 hour school day. According to a student on Change.org, “refreshing our minds before the next few classes would really help us focus more, being in a happier environment.” Students need a break from slaving in a desk all day, doing school work. Leaving school for lunch gives students some fresh air and time to relax their brain. Leaving school to go get lunch would help students with their physical and mental…

Making this change would result in many things like: kids being productive, young teens staying off the streets, etc. Many parents would disagree with this decision and some may agree. An open campus freedom would not only just let students go where they please; it would also give the students a responsibility to manage their time. Many administrators on the board of education do not think that a high school student should have such a responsibility. They would tell us that we are too immature to be able to manage time during the school day. I think that students are mature enough to have such a freedom placed within their grasps. I can anticipate that the opposition will be outraged by all students receiving this freedom and responsibility. If such a concept as open campus could be arranged, there surely would be rules and regulations placed in effect to ensure that the school will not have liability of the student once off school…

As previously stated, you may believe that is would be impossible to control who is leaving the campus. But as stated on the newspaper website for Legacy High School, “If the district insists on maintaining their rule enforcement philosophy, they can allow students over the age of 18 to sign a waiver for themselves, and let younger student-drivers in both the junior and sophomore class have the option of letting their parents sign one for them. Anyone without a waiver would fall under the current closed campus rule. This solution would allow students with permission to have off-campus lunch.” This allows the school to control and supervise anyone who would want to leave the school grounds for lunch. If a student without a waiver were to leave there would be a punishment such as detention. And anyone who breaks rules with a waiver, such as…

How much time do you usually have to yourself when you get home from work or school? For many students, it isn't a very long amount of time and this is only with homework and projects. Some schools are forcing students to take a extracurricular activity. A lot of students wouldn't be able to handle having more to do piled on to them after school. They may have to help their families when they get home or may even have a job they have to go to. Being forced to have more to do after school will only be stressful and counter productive on a student. I believe students shouldn't be forced to participate in extracurricular activities because they may not have time for it, it can be too much on some students, and it takes away from their time to themselves.…
