A Day at the Beach
As I awake from a dreamy slumber, I smell the sweet sensation of buttermilk pancakes cooked to perfection. I slowly got out of the soft hotel bed and made my way to the small kitchen. I opened the snow, white refrigerator door and grabbed the halfway filled milk jug. I twisted off the light blue cap and gulped down a large portion of the delicious 2% milk. I quickly walked towards my hazel suitcase, sitting near the black colored T.V, and grabbed my bright orange swim trunks. I ran like a cheetah catching it's prey, into the tiny cramped bathroom to change.

I sprinted out of my beachfront hotel and onto the golden brown sand of the beach. The sand wasn't too hot since it was still morning. I love the feeling of the rough, grainy sand sliding through my small toes and I smell the gentle breeze of the clear, blue ocean.

In my mind I know the ocean has to be freezing cold, but I can't block out the persuasive voice of the ocean begging me to have a quick swim. I can't hold back anymore, and I charge into the rough wavy ocean. I hit the surface of the salty water and an ice, cold shock goes through my body.

I was running though the water trying to reach the deep part of the ocean where the gigantic waves break. Finally, after all of my struggle I reach my destination! Amazingly, I have gotten used to the ice water and it feels almost warm. "Boom." Out of nowhere I am smashed under the surface, and I hit the ocean ground. I try to pull my self to the surface for a gasp of air, but the force of the monster is too strong. To my surprise the wave releases me and I float to the surface. In my mind, I decided I would pay more attention next time when a 10 foot wave comes hurling over my head. I look out toward the ocean and see a huge wave brewing up. I get ready for an exhilarating ride back to the beach but, right before the swell carries me, I am pulled away with the undertow.

"No, how did I misjudge that enormous wave?" I ask myself in confusion. Don't worry I'll get

It was nearly sunset and I was relaxing along the soothing beach in Capitola, California. My brother and sister were assembling sand and shells to make a colossal sand city while my parents were in two chairs chatting. As I was ambling down the oceanfront my feet would feel the chilly waves and I could sense the gentle wind blowing my way. I was reminiscing about the exciting activities previously that day, including swimming through the waves, body surfing, and passing around a volleyball with my brother.…

I knew I wouldn’t make it to the top of the murky, warm and brown waters. I could feel the oxygen being released quickly from my lungs and bubbles swiftly skimming my skin as I slowly reached the bottom of the lake. I heard the faint cries for help and loud splashing as my sight becomes blurred. I felt someone’s hands grab mine and pull me onto the grainy dusty dirt. My vision comes back and I feel everyone’s eyes on me. They all immediately start laughing at me as I stood up and brushed the dirt off of me, feeling something tightly clutch my body.…

Our designated skipper started up the engine welcoming us aboard. Everything was calm as we glided across the water. The atmosphere was peaceful, the sun was shining, our skipper/tour-guide was being comical, and I felt hope well up inside me. As we moved further along, the waters became murky and grim. The waves were no longer steady, but crashed against our boat, spraying me in the face with salt water. My heart began to race and my cheeks flared. I still don’t know if the salt I tasted was from the water or the tears that I shed. Our commentator then led us to a boat house. The doors closed behind us as we were engulfed in total darkness, nothing but the sound of my heartbeat and the waves lapping against the boat. I shut my eyes and prayed that nothing was lurking in its mysterious…

We enjoyed the atlantic ocean, the warm white sand, and the scorching hot sun. We could hear the huge waves crashing into the sandy shore. We could also hear the lively chatter of the people on the beach. The smell of the salty ocean and the banana boat sunscreen overtook the air with mass quantities of the two smells combined. The touch of the hot sand on your feet and the rough seashells on shore. The best part of the day was when me and my brother went kayaking for an hour out into the deep blue sea. It took fifteen long minutes to fight our way over the…

I bolt past them, running through crowds of people, faster than Usain Bolt has ever run. I dodge past trees and dash past many buildings until I reach the beginning of the hill. My legs start to slow down and my heart feels like its beating out of my chest, I try to run quickly. Pushing myself up the tremendous hill. Huffing and puffing like I'm in a triathlon. I'm halfway there. I stop, panting like a dog on a hot summers day. My heart suddenly sinks in sorrow, I realise I lost my mum. Tears begin to stream down my face I drop to the ground praying that my gorgeous mum is safe, as the first tsunami wave smashes the shore colliding beach chairs and sinking umbrellas in a tangled mess. I see the people get swept up off their feet drowning in the power of the wave, hitting rocks and broken glass. As I think about my mum, I know she wants me to stay safe. So I run faster up the hill, as I sadly watch the people down below. My legs begin to feel like jelly jiggling all over a plate, I become unsteady and loose my balance tripping over a stick, my foot gets stuck in a nearby hole. The second wave comes in. I see it in the corner of my eye. I try to rapidly squeeze my leg out of the hole, scrambling like a worm on a hook. The big blue wave builds up in height it's heading for the mountain, ready to break on me. I close my eyes. Waiting patiently. Listening to the sound of the wind gusting on my…

Once we got deeper into the ocean the waves started pounding me. Unfortunately for me, my dad and siblings weren’t just going to stop there for me. I was pretty sure there was something down there. The broken shells did nothing to remedy that fear. After many waves, and stopping for me to glance at the bottom of the ocean we reached the place where we could catch a wave. When we saw an enormous wave my dad…

The boat comes to a stop, drop the anchor, says the captain of the boat. My stomach just jumped into my throat, we are here, and I am really going to do this! I suit up, and then we all jump in for the dive. I keep looking at my regulator, making sure I was doing ok on air, I give the signal stating that I am doing ok. I look around, not much to see but a few fish and some coral. It all seems so beautiful, crystal clear, bright yellow and blue fish, pink corral wrapped in such gorgeous turquoise green seaweed, with all the beauty there was surely nothing I have to worry about. I notice that I am starting to breathe a bit heavily as I get closer and closer to the ocean floor. I make it down and looking around once again at all the gadgets I have attached to me, everything looks ok until I see how far down we were, 80 feet! I screech in my head. I knew if something happened I was for sure going to want to race to the top, but at the same time I have to keep myself calm so I wouldn’t. I know what the consequences were if I were to do such a thing. Knowing that a horrible pain through my ears and a bubble that could form under the skin from trying to go to the surface to quickly was what was keeping me at the bottom.…

However, that fear has only kept me smart and conscientious around such a powerful body of…

It is spring break, in the middle of March, my junior year. As I cross the state line into Florida, I picture the ocean as being a place of peace and serenity.
