Cultural Event Essence Festival
Culture is very important in society today. With the diverse economy that we live in, it is getting much more difficult to meet the needs of all individuals. One way that different cultural come together or learn each other is through cultural events. Many events exist here in Louisiana that brings cultural together such as: Festival International, Downtown Alive, Essence Music Festival, and many more events. The Essence music festival is a cultural event that has a variety of cultural events which are music, dance, theater, art and literature. The Essence music Festival was started in 1995, in reference the 25th anniversary of the Essence magazine (Essence Communications Inc., 2009). This is an event that occurs on New Orleans, Louisiana and occurs every first weekend in July. This is a 3-day cultural event with spiritual, articulate, knowledgeable, activities and events including meetings with celebrities and guests occurring periodically throughout the day. It was developed and created with African-American literature and performances. This event is an annual event that is growing sporadically in population each year. The Essence festival is one of the largest festivals in the country with more than 270,000 people (Essence Communications Inc., 2009). The Essence music festival is a sponsored event that has several partners that support the festival. The sponsors include Coca-Cola, Cover Girl, Ford, McDonald 's, Pantene, U.S. Army, Wal-mart, CNN, Coors Light, MasterCard, My Black is Beautiful, Southwest Airlines, Tyler Perry TBS show, TV One and many more (Essence Communications Inc., 2009).The festival also includes an Essence Marketplace and Expo with exhibits of Fine Art and Crafts reflecting the African Diaspora and New Orleans (Essence Communications Inc., 2009).
