Cultural Awareness And Sensitivity In Health Care
Cultural awareness and sensitivity is very important in healthcare. Since compassion should be a driving factor in administering heath care, regardless of the medical specialty, this awareness is especially important.
As we see our communities becoming more and more diverse, it requires us all to increase our knowledge of cultural bias. The population is growing more diverse; therefore cultural competency is increasingly important.
Healthcare providers should not allow their personal prejudices and stereotypes influence their behavior and treat certain ethnicities unfairly. This is demeaning and disrespectful to patients. It should be the goal of every health care professional to provide patient-centered, respectful care to all patients.
