Crooks Shows Loneliness In Of Mice And Men

“Sometimes you gotta pretend everything is okay”. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinback. Two men travel to find work on a ranch in California. The characters Crook, Candy, and Curly’s wife all exemplify loneliness and isolation.
Crook shows loneliness in the book. Crooks is the only black guy on the ranch. Crooks says, “S’pose you couldn’t go into the bunk house and play rummy cause you was black”(80). What Crooks is saying is he wants a friend . This is important because it shows how Crooks is excluded out. Crooks is never aloud to play cards , because he cant go in the bunkhouse .”Sure you could play horseshoe till it got dark ,but then you got to read books “(80). He means as soon as they are done outside, Crooks is like a dog and not aloud in. This is important because it shows that crooks doesn’t have anybody . Lastly crooks stays to his self most in the stable , where he lives with the horses. “ A guy goes nuts if he ain’t got nobody”(80) . In this quote Crooks is

Candy means he should have been the one take “care” of his friend by taking him out. It is important because it shows Candy’s regret .Candy’s arm is missing, disabling him to do his job as good as he use to when he had his hand. “A stick like wrist ,but no hand”(18). This statement is showing how Candy’s arm is missing. Its important because it shows the similarity between him and his dog . Candy is lonely when he realizes he’s getting old. He knows when he gets to old he wont be able to do any work. Leaving him being kicked out and have to live on the streets . “ I ain’t much good with one hand . I lost my and hand right here on this ranch “( ). This shows candy’s loneliness because he sees that he’s worthless . Its important because candy is going to ask George and Lennie to join there dream
