Although my assignment showed a good foundation of self awareness and empathy it highlighted areas for development such as referencing and depth of knowledge in particular areas. The feedback suggested I needed to explore ideas and back up ideas with research and reading in order to integrate this with growing practice knowledge and reflections. Consequently I have felt encouraged to read more and question my thoughts and actions within all areas of my life and practice. Bergsons cone of memory supports this and it theorises that each individual collects from birth a range of experiences that determine behaviour and choice. (O’sullivan, 2012) Therefore basing our values, attitudes and beliefs on singular bias incidents is not adequate and in order to develop as an individual and social worker I will strive to challenge my existing prejudices.
