Joshua, a fellow CIT shared, "So I went outside a little earlier because I didn't know if we were all going to be meeting outside of the the cabin, or at the beginning of the paintball range. I walked up to the paintball range, and no one was there no one was there, or outside of the cabins so I decided to take a nap." he shrugged. "I made sure to lay down in the middle of the street so that the boys cold see me and wake me up. Jorge your turn." "So at 5 am I woke up and when I went outside I saw a dead man laying outside and I was so frightened" Jorge contested. With a high pitched Spanish accent, and his fingers snapping in a Z-formation, he said "and I was like, 'ohhhhh, not today', and I ran back into my cabin." Joshua, with a …show more content…
The bell going off is a big deal... these times are reserved for missing camper drills, heat waves, and any other emergencies. So hearing the bell go off after that made me feel awful, "maybe she came through, but I didn't notice her", "what if she is lost?" I questioned to myself in my head as my heart sank. As we arrived, still with the sound of the busting bell constrained in my mind, hundreds of worried voices echoed throughout the gym. This gave me extreme anxiety as I realized the stress that must be put on staff when there is a missing camper and how something bad happening as a result of a camper not having a buddy due to the irresponsibility of a counselor. As we sat down on the cold gym floor, the counselors were all pulled outside to have a meeting, so us, being CITs had entertain the children. There were 4 leadership members and the camp director, Val, who all sang "Boom …show more content…
"Yeah, she's the little black girl in your cabin, right?" They assured themselves. "Yeah, shes the cute one" I said. "Well opening campfire, she said 'Kami, I don't feel good!'" I mocked. "And I was like 'did you eat?' and 'do you need to go to the nurse?' And then she was like 'No, its not any of that, at home, my parents give me these things called Laxatives'." Everyone roared into laughter, saying things "Her parents laxitate her? An 8 year old?" Thinking about that campfire, and the strange things that were said, reminded me of the complete insanity of the rest of that evening, the night of opening campfire. This campfire, was the last opening campfire of the summer, so that means it was extra long. Through campfire, however, I noticed Mikki, one of the counselors that was in my cabin, kept leaving. I didn't worry about it though, it wasn't any of my business. After a great and long campfire on the way back to cabin, with my flash light flickering in my hand, Carolyn told me what had happened. She greeted me "heyyyyyyy kami." I replied "What's poppin' Carolyn?" With a confused look one her face "uh, did Mikki not tell you?" "Tell me what?" I

Later, just a couple of minutes before Prep, I sat by the phone rooms, nauseous about how I would break the world-shattering news to Sophie. Ah, my beloved Sophie, we dated last year until she saw Matt Shauman. But I would have won her back with these tickets. Maybe I can say that I was suspended and Max will get them for her, so as not to break her fragile heart. So, plucking up my last piece of courage, I entered a phone cubicle and dialled her boarding house’s number. Brrrr, Brrrr, with numb fingers, they shook like an earthquake, so wedging the phone between my shoulder and ear, my breathing…

My division was stationed in Normandy, France, at the time of the Allied invasion on June 6, 1944. Toward the end of August or early September, Canadian troops captured me near Dieppe.10 I was with a small group of men who were cut off from our main company and overrun by motorized Allied units. For several days we wandered around searching for our unit, until one night we strayed into a field camp of Canadian soldiers. You can well imagine the astonishment all around when we suddenly appeared in their midst. The Canadians didn’t have a guard posted. This was probably better for all because otherwise we might have exchanged gunfire. Instead, we peacefully turned over our weapons and in return received cigarettes.…

A thousand fires burned on the faded green hills around me, hot smoke rose into the air with the aroma of onions and carrots and pork. My company sat closest to the rough bulwark and lines of splintering wooden spikes that marked the edge of the camp. Deep grey clouds set in; suffocating the azure sky the light was swallowed so quickly I thought that the sun had disappeared. I couldn’t see a thing so I decided to join my brothers for dinner, there were plenty of others on watch duty and one man wouldn’t make a difference.…
