Creative writing about a swim meet(dialogues)
The Swim

As I sit at the edge of my seat, goggles in hand, I nervously wait my turn. "100 m swimmers, you're up next," calls the lady with the scripts. The horn sounds loudly to signal the start of the race before me. The water is splashing, crowd cheering, sun shining, and then there was me. I was so nervous I could have melted waiting in that plastic chair because of the heat beating down on me. I wanted that blue ribbon so bad I would have inhaled water to get it.

"Time!"

"Got it!"

"Finished!"

"Good job!" shouted the timekeepers as the checked the times.

"You're up. Swimmers take your mark: get set..." says the announcer.

Silence roars through the ears of my memory. The horn sounded, then the crowd went wild, and we were off.

"Swim...stroke...pull...kick...faster...NOW BREATH!" my train of thought ran through my head. "Kick...pull...now flip!" again and again I drilled myself as I swam my heart out for the 1st prize ribbon in the finals. The other girls were not too far behind me, or so I was told. I dared not to look back for fear I'd slow myself I heard cheers and shouts as I slowly surfaced for a gasp of air.

"Just...a little...further..." as I stretched out my arm for the wall. "Got it!" I shouted in my head.

"Time!" I heard my timekeeper yell.

I pulled myself out of the water to dry. It was a close race between Maria Fitz and me, everyone was saying. We would have to wait till the end of the meet to know for sure.

"Announcing the 100m 15-16 girls race. In 3rd place Ashley Commerce, in 2nd place by a fraction of a second...Maria Fitz, and in 1st place Sophia Campisi!" finished the announcer.

I jumped up with my towel in one hand and my blue ribbon in the other! Hugs and congrats given to me by family, friends, team mates, and coaches. It was a great day but an even better

The mantra, "breathe in your nose and out your mouth," was the only thing running through my head as I attempted to complete the last half mile of my first cross-country meet, and at least it was running. I on the other hand, was not. I had started the race completely confident in my ability to run three miles, but after a grueling two and a half laps of tripping over tree roots, splashing through mud, and struggling over an enormous hill that marked the last quarter of the lap, I was just ready to go home and take a shower. When my feet crossed onto the threshold of the track where the finish line was positioned, I observed quite a few things. One, the conspicuous red timer was flashing numbers well into the mid-forties range. Two, at least half of the buses in the parking lot seemed long gone. My third and final realization did not occur to me until after I crossed the finish line. As I came to a stop near the water cooler, it finally dawned on me that I had concluded the race in last place.…

Butterflies, Complete panic, a thrill of excitement as I slightly glance at the clear and pure water below me. A feeling of wanting, drilling through my mind when suddenly, the race is called, my first event, I feel a shudder run from my head to my toes as I am standing in a line with my competitors or you could say, my new enemies. When I get up onto the block the gun fires and the race has begun, I leap into the water and swim with all my might, like a sword fish catching its prey, kicking, holding my breath until I reach the surface. As I leapt into the icy cold water, I feel calm and relaxed, but now was not the time to be relaxed. After the first three laps, my heart was beating a thousand times a minute as if I had run a marathon, but all I noticed was that nobody was swimming by my side. “Could it be possible,” I thought to myself, “that I was ahead of all of my competitors?” That was when my heart instantly beat faster as I was on my last lap, gasping for air. My body was filled with excitement as I heard my name being chanted out in the crowd by my swim mates and coach. When I finally finished my race, they tell me my time, I feel a rush of pride, a personal best! I close my eyes and listen for my name being called for first place. I did it! I get out of the pool, and my adrenalin eventually dies down. I will never forget the feeling of pride and accomplishment from that…

My class and I took a few pictures before the race and we stretched a lot. A few minutes passed by and we had to get in our starting positions. So the race was about to start and there was hundreds of people around me and I was still a little nervous. The guy shot the gun up and I sprinted through many people. About half way through the first mile I slowed down and walked for a bit. Someone came up to me and said to at least jog. So I started jogging and I did that for about a mile and a half. Once it came to the second mile there was water cups, I grabbed two dumped one on my face and the other I drank. Since there was so many people I didn’t even know what place I was in or even how far I was. I was getting really tired but I hung in and sprinted the rest of the way. I could hear the crowd cheering so I ran like Forest Gump to get to the finish line. There was a timer when I crossed and it was about 35 minutes total and I finished.…

I felt like such a looser I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t because everyone had their eyes on me feeling like a dam about to burst. This was probably the most embarrassing moment of my life as I was on that track. I was about to walk off the turf and not finish, but then I started to he rhythmic clap from the audience and I knew it was for me. At that moment I started to jog to finish line. I had two forces fighting within me one wanting me to give up and there wanting to keep going forward and not letting people down. If the audience can put the effort to cheer me on, the least I can do is finish. I finally finish and I have never been so happy to finish something in my life.…

As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me. The pain I was feeling helped me take a few strides that caused me to stumble a little, but soon regained my composure. I was at the top. All that was left was one last final turn, and then the downhill. I could see the finish line in the distance and then started sprinting. Coach Rojas was screaming at me to keep going and not to stop. At this point, my heart was pounding rapidly. My body was worn down, hot and exhausted. Crossing the finish line was the only thing on my mind. For a moment, I blocked off from the race and thought about all the hard work that went into the season. I crossed the finish line and at that moment I knew that I had put my sweat and tears into this race. I couldn’t feel my legs, all I wanted was water. Soon after I heard that we won Second place in the district which was the best the team has won. I felt no pain at this point since I was part of a group of people who loved this sport and put effort into it. It gave me happiness to be part of a team that now was like my…

Home plate was only a few strides ahead of me, and I realized that this was it. I slammed my foot onto the plate, thinking to myself that I made it. Suddenly everything around me was loud. My hearing finally returned and I could hear the crowd cheering for me. I ran to the fence and found myself searching for his face. There Andrew sat on the bleachers, smiling at me and clapping his hands.. “I told you I would do it,” I hollered at him, which caused his head to be thrown back in laughter. I smiled proudly and turned my back towards the fence, seeing my teammates make their way onto the field, screaming and hollering my name. Everyone there couldn’t stop cheering and clapping in honor of me, and honestly, it was the best feeling in the…

When I was on the swim team during my sophomore year, I became a leader and lead our swim team to victory. The first few meets that buffalo grove high school participated in, victory did not seem like a possibility. Fortunately , with intense training from our new coaches and leadership skills from the older swimmers, we were able to turn that losing streak around into a glamorous victory. When the time came around for the practice 5 days before the meet. Ultimately my strategy was the 100 x 100’s. A combination of back to back butterfly , breaststroke, and freestyle, with only 7 second breaks in between each stroke. Unfortanatley, that was one of the most excruciating practices the BGHS swim team had experienced in the 2014 season. Although…

INDENT It was my first race of the season on the no-cut cross country team and when I crossed the finish line, I nearly collapsed. By the next race, I knew that I wanted to improve. After the second race, I looked at my time and as usual, I came in last place. Having the least athletic experience on the team, it did not surprise me. However, what came as a shock to me was that it would be a personal win.…
